PCCW is the “Host Fiber Broadband Service Provider” for the APRICOT-APAN 2011 conference

Joining hands with ADVA Optical Networking to deploy Hong Kong’s leading 40Gbps connectivity for the conference

CCW, Hong Kong’s premier telecommunications service provider, has been appointed as the “Host Fiber Broadband Service Provider” for the APRICOT-APAN conference being held in Hong Kong from February 15 to 25, 2011.

The APRICOT (Asia Pacific Regional Internet Conference on Operational Technologies) is a prestigious regional Internet summit for the ICT industry that began in 1996. It is expected that more than 1,000 participants from all over the Asia Pacific region will attend. It is the second APRICOT to be held in Hong Kong after 14 years.

By deploying ADVA Optical Networking’s latest FSP 3000 optical transport solution, PCCW will provide a total of 100Gbps connectivity for the conference, including a leading 40Gbps FiberNET connection dedicated to the live broadcast of a 3D full HD surgery in Czech Republic and a 4K (4096 x 3072 pixel definition) super HD video demonstration to the conference participants in Hong Kong.

Mr. Larry Wong, PCCW’s Senior Vice President of Marketing and Products of Commercial Group, said, “Our first-ever 40Gbps fiber connectivity for the conference further demonstrates Hong Kong’s leading position in broadband communications in the region and highlights the potential benefits of our services to the business community and society in general.”

Mr. Cheng Che Hoo, Chairman of Local Organizing Committee of APRICOT-APAN 2011, said, “When the organizing committee became aware of the unprecedented demands on bandwidth and connectivity for this year’s event, we didn’t need to think twice about asking PCCW for assistance. As well as the company’s expertise and experience in handling network infrastructure for large-scale events, PCCW’s fiber connectivity leadership and capability stand out as the obvious choice. PCCW’s first-ever 40Gbps connection represents a superb deployment for the event and will deliver the utmost convenience in communications, while opening up interesting possibilities.”

Mr. Christoph Glingener, ADVA Optical Networking’s Chief Technology Officer, said, “ADVA Optical Networking has more than 15 years of experience providing fiber-based connectivity solutions for enterprise applications. This is the first 40Gbps system deployment for enterprise applications in Asia, capable of also provisioning 100Gbps services. In the metro, customers need low latency, a small footprint, low power consumption and aggressive price points. This installation is excellent proof that we can deliver against these requirements.”
