Lille joins Tata Communications’ global public Telepresence network

Local businesses to access a high definition, virtual collaboration service, supporting the regions’ drive to build France’s digital economy through better communication in business

France, February 10, 2011 – Lille continues to drive the digital economy in France as EuraTechnologies selects Tata Communications to install, manage and maintain a public Telepresence facility for its economic and technology cluster. The deployment of this high-definition, immersive video collaboration tool will enable over 100 ICT companies within the cluster to join Tata Communications’ Global Network of Telepresence public rooms. The network connects 30 cities across five continents and will play a key role in driving economic growth for Northern France through better virtual business communication.

Supported by the European Union, the Nord Pas de Calais region, Lille Metropole Communauté Urbaine and the French National Government as well as regional and local authorities, EuraTechnologies will offer leading-edge technological services and facilities, such as the Tata Communications Telepresence room, to ICT companies within the business cluster. EuraTechnologies is also part of a comprehensive strategy for the City of Lille development of sustainable urban projects mixing all functions
This flagship centre of excellence fosters development within the ICT sector, from start-ups right through to large multinationals. It is a lynchpin to sparking innovation-led growth and ICT investment within the region.

“The EuraTechnologies cluster is one of the prides of the Nord-Pas-de-Calais region. We are all too  aware of the challenges within the field of ICT and felt it was essential to install an advanced and efficient communication service to facilitate trade and communications between companies and their international partners, whilst at the same time promoting a digital economy throughout the region,” says Pierre de Saintignon, Vice President of the Region, responsible for Economic Development and new technologies and Deputy Mayor of the City of Lille.

The Tata Communications public Telepresence facility, encompassing Cisco hardware will enable participants to feel as if they are in the same room together regardless of where they are individually located in the world. Telepresence creates the potential to improve all sorts of business interaction through better and more frequent meetings, resulting in stronger customer relationships and accelerated sales cycles, better project management and tighter integration of remote offices.

“The adoption of Telepresence at EuraTechnologies highlights our continued investment in a range of products and services with high-added value, not only to companies on-site, but also to businesses throughout the entire region. We have had the pleasure of working with partners that have strong expertise and excellent service. Tata Communications’ global stature and proven track record gives us enormous confidence in moving forward together with future plans and projects,” says Raouti Chehih, CEO EuraTechnologies.

Tata Communications was the world’s first communications provider to offer public Telepresence rooms, giving any customer the benefit of virtual conference technology at a cost effective, pay-per-use, hourly rate. The company currently has the largest global network of public Telepresence rooms and is present in 30 major cities across five continents, with its 32 rooms spanning 17 countries. The public room facility offers users who do not have Telepresence rooms within their company, access to this cutting-edge technology at an affordable price.

The public room in Lille will be linked to Tata Communications’ global Telepresence network, via its Global Meeting Exchange. The Tata Communications Exchange enables meetings to take place between any private or public room on its network; as well as rooms on the networks of Tata Communications’ Intercarrier-Exchange partners, BT, Telefonica, and the National Lamda Rail network, which links leading US universities. This network reach makes Telepresence a truly global collaboration tool.

“We are proud to launch Lille’s first public Telepresence room, which will be based at the EuraTechnologies centre of excellence. The region has taken yet another important step in becoming a smart and connected business community that will propel economic growth,” says Claude Sassoulas, Managing Director, Europe and Africa, Tata Communications. “Telepresence enables true global collaboration, as users can connect, in real time, to an extensive business ecosystem of public and private rooms through our network and partner networks around the world.”

“At Cisco, we believe that collaborative solutions lead to a higher competitiveness of territories and enhance companies’ dynamism, no matter what their size or activity sector. Telepresence will enable EuraTechnologies’ growth and influence by connecting the cluster to the main R&D and industrial clusters worldwide”, says Laurent Blanchard, General Manager, Cisco France.

The Tata Communications public Telepresence room at EuraTechnologies will open its doors for businesses during the first half of 2011.

The deployment will be implemented in collaboration with integration partner, NextiraOne.

In addition, Tata Communications will be strengthening its presence in the Lille region through the set up of a local office within the EuraTechnologies cluster in 2011.
