Mobile Video Optimization Solution Delivers Uncompromised User Experience with up to 36 Percent Cost Savings for Operators
BARCELONA, Spain, Feb. 13, 2011 — Juniper Networks (NASDAQ:JNPR, news, filings) today announced the expansion of its Media Flow portfolio with Mobile Video Optimization, an industry leading solution that dramatically improves the economics of delivering video over mobile networks while revolutionizing the user viewing experience. Juniper’s new Mobile Video Optimization solution delivers intelligent caching, compression and transcoding to optimize mobile video flows. The solution enables mobile operators to confidently deliver premium video content to their subscribers and create new business opportunities.
Partnering with global software innovator Openwave Systems Inc., Juniper’s Mobile Video Optimization solution combines the Juniper Networks® Media Flow Controller and the Service Delivery Gateway (SDG) running on its MX 3D Universal Edge Router with the Openwave Media Optimizer. The SDG provides a suite of rich services including Carrier Grade NAT, Firewall, Deep Packet Inspection, Application Load Balancing and Traffic Direct on a single platform to reduce latency, complexity and cost.
“We are very pleased to be working with Juniper to address the tremendous opportunity around mobile video optimization,” said Ken Denman, CEO of Openwave Systems. “By integrating our video technology with Juniper’s industry leading Media Flow content delivery platform and MX 3D Universal Edge Router, mobile operators can maximize their network assets and deliver superior quality of experience.”
According to Yankee Group, mobile traffic will be dominated by video which will account for more than 65 percent of total traffic by 2013. With video traffic rising rapidly, Juniper’s expanded Media Flow Solutions will help mobile operators overcome RAN congestion and leverage their current RAN investment to deliver high quality of experience. The Mobile Video Optimization solution offers a significant price-performance improvement over traditional optimization solutions by combining SDG and optimization functions into a single platform. Mobile operators can benefit immediately with cost savings while expanding their smartphone subscriber base without waiting for a forklift upgrade.
“Our combined solution sets a new benchmark in video optimization for 3G and LTE networks while delivering up to 36 percent cost savings in network investment for data growth,” said Manoj Leelanivas, executive vice president and general manager of Junos® Application Software, Juniper Networks. “Operators can deliver the real-time application intelligence with subscriber policies to innovate new monetization models while delivering superior user experience.”
