Juniper Networks Continues Junos Software Momentum with New Developer Applications and Tools

Availability of Junos® Space SDK Further Extends Juniper’s Open Ecosystem, Enabling Developers to Build Network-Aware Applications Quickly and Economically

SUNNYVALE, Calif., Feb. 8, 2011 — Delivering on its promise of the new network, Juniper Networks (NASDAQ:JNPR, news, filings) today announced the availability of the Junos Space Software Development Kit (SDK) and new application development partners for the Junos and Junos Space SDKs. The Junos Platform enables partners to develop, deploy and bring to market innovative, network applications specifically tailored to satisfy business needs.

The Junos Space SDK provides a RESTful, web services-based Application Programming Interface (API) and a rich set of tools to create, test, simulate and deploy network applications. With Junos Space SDK not only can third parties, partners and developers quickly create and introduce new applications, but they can also have the assurance of an open, stable and secure development and runtime platform. The Junos Space SDK unlocks network resources for developers and makes it simple to build, test and deploy network applications.

“Developers are only limited by their imagination and are free to innovate using the embedded network intelligence to enhance customer value through differentiated applications,” said Mike Harding, vice president and general manager, Junos Space Software at Juniper Networks. “With the Junos SDK and now the Junos Space SDK, Juniper continues its heritage of investing in software for the programmable network. With these SDKs, Juniper is making development of network-enabled applications accessible to more developers and supporting the growth of an ecosystem to deliver valuable application experiences that enhance the network investments made by Juniper customers.”

“Junos Space is the most advanced, service-layer technology tool set yet available, and this SDK provides developers, service providers, and partners with access to the critical features of the network, and this in turn creates a value-driven linkage between connection, transport, features, and management,” said Tom Nolle, president and founder, CIMI Corporation. “Every network owner, whether enterprise or service provider, needs to link the network directly with its business case, to optimize ROI and contain operations costs. Juniper’s leadership in service automation and intelligence, and its momentum in providing tools and capabilities to enhance the marriage of the network and service layers, is impressive.”

Early adopters of Junos Space SDK include:

  • JouleX: JouleX’s energy management solutions offer robust power consumption reporting to deliver significant cost and carbon savings across distributed networks. “Junos Space SDK, has enabled JouleX to scale our application to thousands of network devices,” said Tom Noonan, president and CEO, JouleX.
  • Rebasoft: Rebasoft’s flagship product, Auditor, is a leading solution for business infrastructure indexing, search facilitation and contextual reporting. “Junos Space SDK is unprecedented in its ability for us to create solutions with the most comprehensive visibility of network resources, facilitating a clear view into who, what, when and where,” said Mike McGrath, chief strategy officer, Rebasoft.

Junos SDK is used by service providers and partners around the world to optimize their networks for reduced cost of operations. Juniper’s single, open, cross-network Junos operating system (OS), delivers a reliable, high-performance platform for routing, switching and security — with programming interfaces and an SDK to help developers discover more value in their network. Juniper first opened the Junos OS in 2007, delivering the Junos SDK that is now used by third parties around the world to optimize and integrate their networks.

Nissho Electronics, one of the largest IT solutions and services organizations in Japan with a footprint in the enterprise and service provider segment, used the Junos SDK to create a service application which enables centralized management for the Junos OS platform. “There are many difficult manual processes involved in a conventional network,” said Suguru Fukuda, deputy general manager of marketing at Nissho. “The Junos SDK helps us streamline these processes and allows us to create applications critical to system offerings that dramatically facilitate configuration, monitoring, management and operational maintenance. Through our partnership with Juniper, customers can benefit from high-volume services deployment in a rapid, cost-efficient and error-free manner.”
