Interoute Deploys GENBAND S3 SBC for Secure Microsoft Lync 2010 SIP Trunking Solution

Leading European voice and data network owner/operator leverages GENBAND SBC solution to serve enterprise and carrier customers

Barcelona, February 14, 2011
– GENBAND, a leading developer of IP infrastructure and application solutions, today announced that Interoute, the owner/operator of Europe’s most advanced and densely connected voice and data network, has deployed the GENBAND S3 Session Border Controller (SBC) to launch a secure SIP trunking solution for Microsoft Unified Communications that serves Interoute’s global enterprise and carrier customers.

Interoute is currently offering business SIP and H3232 trunking for IP-PBXs, Microsoft OCS release 2 SIP trunking and carrier interconnect using the GENBAND S3 deployed in its Pan-European networks, with a presence in the U.S., Western Europe, Middle East and Africa. In October 2010, Interoute qualified their SIP trunking solution, supported by GENBAND SBC capabilities, as the first European service provider to support the latest offering of the Microsoft® Lync™ Server 2010 communications server. This key qualification ensures that carriers can offer seamless SIP trunking services to customers running Microsoft’s unified communications software.

“This qualification achievement enables Interoute to extend our customer base by offering SIP trunking to enterprises that utilize the Microsoft Unified Communication solution, as well as to carriers who want to offer this service and need the technical solutions and support to avoid a costly migration,” says Matthew Finnie, Interoute’s CTO. “The GENBAND S3 SBC plays an important role in allowing Interoute to achieve this strategic objective.”

“By connecting Microsoft Lync 2010 to Interoute’s pan-European network via SIP trunking using the GENBAND S3 SBC, Interoute enables enterprises to deploy unified communications and Voice over IP in a secure and cost-effective way,” says Pablo Gargiulo, President of Global Sales at GENBAND. “This qualifies the GENBAND S3 SBC to be deployed in the Microsoft Unified Communications Lync 2010 offering, which is a key achievement for GENBAND, our partners, carriers and enterprise customers worldwide.”

Interoute owns the largest Next Generation Network, spanning the European Union from Warsaw to London and from Stockholm to Sicily, and extending to the Middle East, Africa and major North American telecom hubs. The Interoute network incorporates 55,000 kilometers of lit fiber, 21 metropolitan area networks, eight data centers and 32 co-location centers. The company serves Europe’s largest cities and supports customers in local language across the European Union.

Microsoft Lync Server 2010 provides a highly secure and reliable system that works with Active Directory, Microsoft Exchange Server and Microsoft SharePoint technologies. This solution uses Microsoft management tools to facilitate easier management and lower cost of ownership. Seamless interoperability with existing systems enables smooth deployment and migration.

The GENBAND S3 SBC delivers enhanced SIP security and interworking that an enterprise can use to extend Unified Communications beyond their internal environments, using Interoute’s SIP trunking for Microsoft Unified Communications solutions. The GENBAND S3 SBC provides carrier-grade performance, including the industry’s highest call rates, extensive interconnect security features, and simplified OSS integration for easier provisioning and management.
