St. Maarten Telecom Provider turns to BTI Systems for 3G Mobile Service Expansion and Seamless Integration for Ethernet Business Services
Ottawa — Monday, February 28, 2011 // BTI Systems, the company that redefines metro service delivery, today announced that the TelEm Group, the government-owned incumbent telecom provider on the Dutch Caribbean Island of St. Maarten, has selected a packet optical networking solution from BTI Systems to serve as the scalable and reliable network backbone for its 3G mobile service expansion and NGN all IP network. To deliver broadband-like speeds for Internet access, application downloads and media streaming to its subscribers, TelEm Group selected the BTI Systems’ network solution for wireless backhaul which seamlessly integrates Carrier Ethernet and WDM to address scalability, capacity and growing bandwidth requirements of wireless backhaul.
The TelEm Group provides fixed, wireless and data services for business and residential customers throughout the island. To enable the delivery of new 3G services, BTI Systems combines the operationally efficient BTI 7000 Seriesto provide the core of the network, alongside the BTI 700 Series Ethernet Access Devices that work as the network on-ramps at 38 access points and 22 cell towers for an end-to-end packet optical solution. In addition to its wireless backhaul tasking, the network solution will deliver Ethernet business services to enterprises and institutions across the island, leveraging BTI Systems MEF-certified platforms and proNX Management Suite to simplify the provisioning and management of Ethernet and IP services. The BTI Systems’ solution is the high capacity communications backbone that allows the TelEm Group to cost effectively scale their deployment, converge wireless and wireline service infrastructure, and keep pace with the bandwidth demand driven by video intensive and multimedia communication applications.
“As the island’s largest telecom provider, we look forward to utilizing the significant performance and capabilities of our advanced fiber optic network,” said Eldert Louisa, CTO of the TelEm Group. “BTI Systems’ provides a simplified and converged approach that will make it easier to rapidly provision services for our valuable customers and preserve our status as the provider of choice.”
