FiberLight, LLC, a leading provider of mission critical high performance metro optical network provider and Alpheus Communications, one of the largest competitive fiber network operators in Texas, announced today that Alpheus has purchased dark fiber strands in east Dallas County and Downtown Fort Worth from FiberLight. The transaction constitutes the fifth major fiber purchase by Alpheus in the last five years. The rapid increase in the demand for 3G and 4G wireless data services directly drives the demand for nearby fiber. Once a wireless signal travels down a tower and onto a terrestrial network, wireless capacity is returned for reuse, interference stops being an issue, and the data stream is more secure.
Paul Hobby, CEO of Alpheus said, “We are shamelessly regional, this new fiber will help our density in the places where the demand for broadband Internet access and dedicated wavelengths are growing exponentially.” Alpheus already has a data center presence and a lit optical network in Fort Worth, and these new routes would be additive.
“We are delighted to have completed this significant transaction as it enhances Alpheus’s position as a leading alternative connectivity provider in Texas,” Michael P. Miller, CEO and Founder of FiberLight, said. “Alpheus has been and continues to be an important customer of ours. We look forward to continuing our long-term relationship with the company during this evolving and exciting period in the wireless industry’s growth.”
