TelePacific’s Richard Jalkut Named Featured Speaker at COMPTEL PLUS CEO Breakfast

COMPTEL, the leading trade association for the competitive communications industry, today announced that Richard Jalkut, president and CEO of TelePacific Communications, will be the featured speaker during the CEO Breakfast during the COMPTEL PLUS Spring 2011 Convention & EXPO, March 20-23, 2011, at the Venetian in Las Vegas.

“With new entrants coming into the marketplace, last mile alternatives becoming a reality and limitless applications pushing bandwidth to new extremes, I’ll share my view of the past, present and future with peers at COMPTEL’s CEO breakfast,” said Jalkut. “Despite all of the technological innovations that have occurred in the last three decades, from the Bell System break up to new competition brought on by wireless and IP, one thing remains constant – customer service. You can have all the bells and whistles, you can be cutting-edge and best-of-breed, but if you do not remain true to your customer, the market will flee.”

Jalkut has more than 35 years experience in the telecommunications industry, including extensive senior executive and start-up experience. Early in his career, Jalkut served as president, CEO and chairman of NYNEX Telephone Companies, the regulated arm of NYNEX, which included New York Telephone, New England Telephone and the NYNEX Service and Technology companies. During his 32-year tenure with NYNEX and its predecessor companies, Jalkut oversaw the voice, data, Internet and usage services of NYNEX’s seven-state operation. He presided over an organization with more than 80,000 employees and 16 million customers, producing more than $15 billion of annual revenue. In 1997, NYNEX merged with Bell Atlantic, and after serving in the leadership team coordinating that successful merger, Jalkut moved on to lead the start-up of Pathnet. From 1988 to 1991, Jalkut was executive vice president and COO of the New England and New York Telephone Companies. Prior to joining TelePacific in 2002, he served as president and CEO of Pathnet Telecom, a wholesale provider of services to more than 100 second- and third-tier markets located across the U.S., for four years.

Jalkut serves on the Boards of Directors of HSBC-USA, Univar and Hawaiian Telecom, where he is the chairman of the board. He has previously served as a director of Digex and Home Wireless Networks, along with IKON Office Solutions and Birch Telecom.

Jalkut earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science and Economics from Boston College, and performed graduate work at Northeastern University. Active in the community, Jalkut is past chairman of New York City Partnership and the New York State Business Council. Currently, he is a trustee of the American Museum of Natural History, Boston College, and the New York City Investment Fund, and is chairman of Lesley University in Cambridge, Mass.

The CEO Breakfast is scheduled from 7:30 a.m. to 9 a.m. on Monday, March 21. It is an invitation-only event, open to C-level executives at COMPTEL member companies.
