HERE COMES MORE BROADBAND FROM FAIRPOINT COMMUNICATIONS

FairPoint Expands Broadband Service in Greater Brunswick Area by Over 7,100

PORTLAND, Maine (January 27, 2011) – More Mainers can quickly e-mail photos, download music and surf the Internet now that FairPoint Communications has expanded broadband service to more than 7,100 homes and businesses in the towns of Brunswick, Bowdoin, Bowdoinham, Wiscasset, Edgecomb, Harpswell, Phippsburg, Richmond, Topsham, Bath, Woolwich and West Bath, Maine. FairPoint high-speed Internet is available for the first time to eligible customers in these communities.

Since April 2008, FairPoint has invested more than $135 million in the communications infrastructure and technology to bring broadband to northern New England, including building over 700 miles of new fiber across the region. FairPoint’s new fiber-based, high capacity network – called VantagePoint – offers customers a better, faster way to communicate. This aggressive and unprecedented broadband expansion was financed solely by FairPoint and provides the infrastructure to allow more Mainers to capitalize on the increased availability and better use the Internet.

“Broadband access opens doors to the world for the residents and businesses in Maine and is fundamental to the state’s future economic growth,” said Mike Reed, FairPoint’s Maine state president. “Our employees are working every day to build more broadband across the state. We are pleased to announce the availability of high-speed Internet for the residents in these towns.”

This expansion is part of FairPoint’s successful efforts to increase broadband access to 83 percent of its service areas in Maine by the close of 2010. High-speed connection areas include portions of the following towns (number of newly served households and businesses is in parenthesis): Brunswick (2,617); Bowdoin/Bowdoinham (868); Wiscasset/Edgecomb (581); Harpswell (551); Phippsburg (590); Richmond (524); Topsham (633); Woolwich (256) and Bath/West Bath (578).

“Broadband availability is critical to both Maine consumers and businesses,” said Steve Wallace, president of the Southern Maine Midcoast Chamber. “FairPoint’s investment has helped expand the region’s access to broadband and their new network will help enhance and support economic development in our region.”

In the past few months, FairPoint has turned up more than 260 new high-speed Internet sites statewide which made broadband available to more than 40,000 additional homes and businesses in Maine.

Internet packages start as low as $35.99. For additional information about FairPoint High-Speed Internet prices and bundled plans, residential consumers can call 1-866-984-2001 or visit www.FairPoint.com.
