EdgeCast closes 2010 with more than 2,000 customers

World’s fastest-growing CDN again doubles in size in 2010

SANTA MONICA, CALIFORNIA – January 7, 2011— After closing a landmark year, EdgeCast Networks, the world’s fastest, most reliable content delivery network (CDN) announced the company had again experienced record growth in its customer base during 2010. Its direct sales and marketing efforts, supported by a thriving network of partner resellers, helped the company double its customer base, adding more than 1,000 new customers including AdColony, Dreamstime, SlashGear, StreamCity, and Tumblr.

Deployments also include the World Online Gaming League (WOGL), a leading eSports company dedicated to providing gamers all over the world a forum for competitive play. A content-rich website built around a large user community, WOGL needs to reach a global audience – and respond at lightning speed. WOGL also produces WOGL.TV, an on-demand HD streaming media channel that broadcasts live competitions using Microsoft Silverlight. EdgeCast’s worldwide network of servers enables the company to serve this content to users quickly, no matter where they are in the world.

“We have been using EdgeCast this year to stream online gaming events using Microsoft Silverlight,” said Stephen Tucker, CEO of WOGL. “We personally have powerful computers and very fast connections, so we also have high expectations. The support, attention to detail, and server performance we get from EdgeCast has provided our viewers the best experience imaginable.”

Woopra, a web analytics company, also depends on EdgeCast every day to serve their powerful real-time web tracking and analytics application to their clients the world over. Site owners are often reluctant to add analytics code to their pages because if it loads slowly, it will make their site appear to load slowly. This can slow the penetration of such services. But with EdgeCast, Woopra’s code loads fast – served automatically from the server fastest for each visitor – ensuring an optimal user experience.

“Woopra’s growth curve could best be described as ‘viral’ and we simply surpassed the capabilities of our previous CDN provider,” said John Pozadzides, CEO of Woopra. “We needed a partner with the reach and scale to handle billions of downloads, and one who would do it with a smile on their face. EdgeCast turns out to be just such a partner — they’ve never let us down.”

Demonstrating the company’s commitment to continual development of new technologies and services, EdgeCast launched several new services during 2010 including its Application Delivery Network, a service that accelerates delivery of dynamic content; an online cloud storage solution; and full support for live and on-demand streaming to Microsoft Silverlight and Apple iOS 4.

During 2010, EdgeCast also expanded its global network with the launch of new data centers in Singapore and Paris, as well as partnerships with leading telecommunications companies including Canada’s TELUS and Australia’s AAPT.
