NTT America Delivers Scalable Internet Infrastructure to Address Internet Growth Challenges

Company CTO Addresses Next Generation Telecom Summit Attendees

New York, NY –  NTT America, a wholly owned subsidiary of NTT Communications Corporation, and a global infrastructure services provider, today announced that the company’s Chief Technology Officer (CTO), Doug Junkins, will speak at the Next Generation Telecoms Summit. The event is one of the premier arenas for senior level executives to meet with peers and engage in industry-developing dialogues, workshops, round tables and one-on-one meetings.  A leading provider of enterprise hosting, managed network and global IP networking services, NTT America brings unique insight into managing global infrastructure assets for service providers, content providers, enterprises and multinational corporations. The event is being held at the Boulders Resort & Spa in Scottsdale, Arizona on December 6 – 8, 2010.

Mr. Junkins will lead a workshop for telecom industry leaders titled, “Challenge of Growth:  Technologies to Scale the Internet”.  Since its inception, the Internet has experienced phenomenal growth like no other communications medium has ever before, but with that brings infrastructure scaling issues that threaten the continued growth of the Internet.  In his presentation, Mr. Junkins will address those challenges as well as three technologies that can help overcome them:

·         IPv6, and the why this protocol is the catalyst for the next generation of the Internet;

·         The migration to 100 gigabit per second (gbps) routers;

·         LISP, and how this protocol is critical to network operators.

For years the Internet has seen tremendous growth with little sign of dissipation, but with this expansion come issues with infrastructure scaling which have become pressing concerns.  Every day, the number of devices connecting to the Internet grows – especially with the increased adoption of smartphones and other mobile technologies – and thus amount of bandwidth those devices consume and the type of content being used results in further scaling issues. As the industry moves towards the adoption of new technologies it is essential to overcome these challenges, and provide the necessary infrastructure to foster continued growth on the Internet.

During the workshop, Mr. Junkins will address opportunities for content providers, web hosting companies and service providers seeking to scale their networks.  In addition he will discuss best practices that are essential for the successful scaling of Internet infrastructure, including network infrastructure and hardware, protocols, network quality.  Mr. Junkins will also provide a glimpse into the future, touching on how new advances in IPv6 and 100GigE platforms provide content and network operators with a competitive advantage.

In his role as CTO, Mr. Junkins is responsible for the company’s technology procurement strategy and vendor selection, industry relations and standardization efforts and overall product portfolio coordination across both the Global IP Network and Enterprise Solutions business units of NTT America.  As Vice President of IP development for the Global IP Network Business Unit, Mr. Junkins is also responsible for network architecture, tool development and peering relations for the NTT Communications Global IP Network.  (Note: To view the NTT Communications Global IP Network, visit: http://www.ntt.net/english/about/network_map.cfm).
