Yunnan Copper Picks Juniper Networks for Data Center Upgrade

Scalable Solution Delivers Reliability, Security and a Low TCO to Diversified Mining Group

CHINA, Nov. 24, 2010 — Juniper Networks (NASDAQ:JNPR, news, filings) today announced that the Yunnan Copper Industry (Group) Co Ltd has migrated data center network to switches, routers and security devices running the Junos® operating system. Deployment of Juniper Networks® EX4200 Ethernet Switches, SRX3600 Service Gateways and M10i Multiservice Edge Routers enables Yunnan Copper to scale its data center operations and provide improved services to its branch offices and subsidiaries.

Yunnan Copper is the country’s third largest copper producer and also produces gold, silver, platinum, palladium, zinc, molybdenum, selenium, tellurium and other rare metals, non-ferrous metals and valuable elements. In recent years, Yunnan Copper also has been expanding its asset base to further develop its international business.

“The scale and complexity of our operations was putting a lot of stress on our existing IT infrastructure and building a new network was an absolute prerequisite to data center expansion,” said Ding Jianhua, Director, Network Department of the Yunnan Copper. “We wanted to put in a new network that could scale, both in terms of performance and security. Juniper Networks’ highly-reliable data center solution is very versatile, thanks to its virtualization features, and has an attractive total cost-of-ownership.”

Yunnan Copper’s new data center networks is based around EX4200 switch that has been deployed in Virtual Chassis configurations, interconnected over 10 Gigabit Ethernet, to provide a high port-density, single layer switching fabric. Juniper Networks SRX3600 Service Gateways provide high-performance firewall functionality while the M10i routers support logical routing to optimize the security of links between its branch office and the data center.

“Yunnan Copper’s decision to deploy our data center solution reflects the fact that Juniper Networks is now making good headway in the broader enterprise market,” said Andy Miller, vice president of Asia Pacific’s Enterprise business, Juniper Networks. “The data center network deployed at Yunnan Copper is very much designed to work as a whole, with Junos orchestrating operations across all devices.”

Junos is Juniper Networks’ reliable, high-performance single network operating system, which integrates routing, switching, security, and an array of network services. Junos operating system automates network operations on a streamlined system, allowing more time to focus on deploying new applications and services.
