Sonus Networks and Shared Technologies Join Forces to Expand Sonus’s Presence in the Enterprise

Shared Technologies to Resell Sonus’s Entire Product Portfolio to Its Enterprise Customer Base

Westford, Mass., and Irving, Texas, Nov. 16, 2010 Sonus Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ:SONS, news, filings), a market leader in next-generation IP-based network solutions , and Shared Technologies Inc. (STI), a wholly owned subsidiary of Arrow Electronics Inc., today announced an agreement to resell Sonus Networks’ broad portfolio of carrier-class products and solutions to the enterprise market.

Under the terms of the agreement, STI will act as a reseller of the complete Sonus product portfolio, including the NBS9000™ Network Border Switch, the recently announced NBS5200™ Network Border Switch on Sonus’s new ConnexIP platform, the GSX9000™ High-density Media Gateway, PSX™ Call Routing Server, and the SGX™ Signaling Gateway.

“The combination of Sonus’s proven carrier-class solutions-including its VoIP and session management portfolio-and our enterprise sales and service experience represents a tremendous opportunity for both organizations and a significant benefit to the enterprise market,” said Jeff Graham, chief technology officer for STI. “Sonus’s technology is well suited to meet the evolving voice and data communications challenges facing today’s enterprises.”

Given evolving market and technology conditions, many large enterprises are currently experiencing four major communications challenges: a large and mobile employee base, geographically dispersed points of presence, multivendor voice architectures, and the complex interworking of various media and signaling protocols.

As enterprises seek to transform their networks to an all-IP core despite budget limitations, they can save money with the next-generation NBS5200’s unique hybrid solution. It combines full session border control (SBC) functionality with media interworking, an advanced routing and policy engine and multi-access security gateway features in a single two-rack unit (2RU) form factor. This unique combination of functionality replaces multiple disparate network elements with a single NBS5200–without compromising scale or features. This allows enterprises to obtain a quick return on investment while also upgrading their network architecture to be able to handle new unified communication applications.

“The trends are clear. Large enterprises are increasingly deploying carrier-class technologies and building infrastructures that resemble mini carrier environments,” said David Tipping, vice president of product management and marketing at Sonus. “Shared Technologies is well positioned to deliver Sonus enterprise solutions to this market.”

Sonus’s powerful products and the expertise of STI together offer solutions that incorporate session border control, centralized policy and routing and media transcoding functionality in an innovative architecture that empowers enterprises to solve their fixed and mobile communications challenges within a proven and cost-effective framework.
