Waynesboro, VA – It’s third down in front of the usual sellout crowd at Lane Stadium, and the Virginia Tech defense once again is being called on to make the “key play.” As is tradition, Hokies fans reach down toward their pockets. But this time, instead of pulling out their keys to jingle, they pull out their smartphones?
That’s right. Their smartphones.
Thanks to nTelos Wireless, Hokies fans now can download a “Virginia Tech Key Play” mobile application for their Android and Blackberry phones that will play the famous “Key Jingle.” In addition, supporters and alumni of the University of Richmond Spiders and James Madison University Dukes can download Android and Blackberry apps featuring each school’s fight song.
nTelos Wireless is making the apps available not only to its customers, but also to any fans with an Android or Blackberry smartphone. The apps will be available through the Android Market beginning November 4 and through the Blackberry App World a few weeks later.
“What better way for fans to show their support for their teams than by always having these iconic sounds at the fingertips?” said Rob Cale, vice president of marketing, nTelos Wireless. “As a Virginia-based company and avid supporter of college football teams though the nTelos Wireless ‘We Love Saturdays’ campaign, we’re happy to develop and distribute these free apps to enhance the fan experience. nTelos long has been involved as a community leader, and the school-spirit apps are just another way of giving back.”
nTelos Wireless is the official wireless sponsor of Virginia Tech football, the University of Richmond and James Madison University athletics. “Our partnerships with each of the schools have been a win-win,” said Cale. “We’re pleased that they have the confidence to use nTelos nationwide wireless service for their communications.”
