Interxion Announces Expansion of Its Second Dublin Data Centre

  • Increased net space of 900m2, brings overall equipped space at DUB2 data centre to 1700m2
  • Driven by particular growth in carriers, cloud service providers, and digital media sectors
  • Brings total expansion investment in Ireland in the last 18 months to EUR 13 million

DUBLIN 30 November 2010 – Interxion, a leading European provider of carrier-neutral colocation data centres services, today announced the expansion of its recently opened Dublin 2 data centre. The expansion of the facility is in response to consistently rising demand from colocation customers, in particular customers in the fast-growing digital media, carrier and cloud service sectors. Including the investment made to build and equip the new data centre, this latest expansion brings Interxion’s total investment in the new facility to EUR 13 million in the last 18 months.

The new phase of Interxion’s data centre will provide an additional 900m2 of net space, increasing Interxion’s overall capacity to 1,700m2 of equipped space. The project also includes the delivery of an additional 1200kW of high-density power to the site, helping meet the growing need for energy-efficient, high-power-density infrastructure, a key requirement for the latest virtualized servers. Work has already started on the expansion and is scheduled to be completed by Q1 2011.

Interxion’s data centre offers the highest levels of redundancy, reliability and standards-based operation, with 2N UPS power and N+1 cooling, as well as advanced alarm and monitoring systems. The new space has been designed using Interxion’s energy-efficient modular architecture, with free cooling and maximum-efficiency components as standard. Power monitoring and management systems also enable customers to monitor their power usage, streamlining their operations to optimise Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE). Interxion recently achieved the highly regarded BS 25999, the British Standards Institution (BSI) standard for Business Continuity Management. This has been integrated with Interxion’s existing Information Security Management System certification, ISO 27001.

“The demand we are experiencing for premium, energy-efficient colocation space is driven to a great extent by the innovative and fast-growing digital media, cloud service and carrier sectors,” said Tanya Duncan, Managing Director, Interxion Ireland. “We plan to continue to enhance our facilities and build on our standards to support and grow these and other customer communities, offering them the best possible environment for managing and developing their mission-critical applications.”
