Deployed Subsea Systems Total 85,000 Route-Kilometers
SINGAPORE, Oct 11, 2010 (MARKETWIRE via COMTEX) —
Infinera Submarine Solutions (NASDAQ:INFN, news, filings) will highlight the new features, capabilities, and benefits of Infinera subsea networks at Submarine Networks World 2010 this week. Infinera personnel will speak at two conference presentations and Infinera will exhibit product solutions at a booth display at the conference’s trade show.
The continuing growth in submarine bandwidth is straining the ability of existing submarine fiber cable systems, many more than a decade old, to meet today’s growing bandwidth needs. Submarine cable system operators must therefore consider the possibility of new cable deployments, at considerable cost in capital investment and build-out time. Infinera has changed the rules of the game by introducing a broad range of features on the Infinera DTN to provide SLTE (submarine line terminating equipment) functionality and enable rapid, cost-effective capacity upgrades of new and existing fiber cable systems. Infinera’s Digital Optical Networks architecture enables a submarine network to deliver greater capacity, new services, and significantly faster speed of deployment on existing undersea cable infrastructures without any sacrifice in reach or reliability, and with greater cost-effectiveness than before.
The Infinera DTN operating in SLTE mode provides a set of application-optimized features for upgrading submarine cable networks, including support for high-reliability trans-oceanic optical transmission, low-cost and low-latency full-band dispersion compensation optimized for greatly reduced size, integrated low-cost terrestrial backhaul and submarine network inter-connection, and undersea cable connectivity solutions optimized for operating over existing cable systems. Infinera Submarine Solutions have been deployed worldwide for multiple customers for a total of more than 85,000 route-kilometers, including routes across the Atlantic, between North, Central, and South America, in the Middle East, and in the Indian Ocean.
The features and capabilities of Infinera Submarine Solutions have been enhanced with additional capabilities introduced in Release 6 of DTN, the IQ Network Operating System, and the DNA network management system. New features include new client interfaces to support OTN services on a submarine network, and simplified management of multi-vendor networks via the Infinera Management Suite.
At Submarine Networks World, Infinera Fellow Dr. Steve Grubb will present on the features and capabilities of 40Gb/s communications in submarine networks at a panel discussion on October 13th titled “Assessing the commercial viability of 40G technology to optimize bandwidth requirements: Is this the optimal technology for cables today?” Dr. Grubb will also deliver a talk titled “High capacity upgrades of existing submarine wet plant using photonic integrated circuit based systems.” Today’s Infinera systems are compatible with the 40Gb/s line cards Infinera plans to deliver in 2011 to enable submarine networks to upgrade their existing infrastructure to accommodate growing bandwidth demand.
Also at the show, Infinera product and technology experts will be at Booth 2 to provide information on Infinera products and the unique Digital Optical Networks architecture. Infinera will also host a Customer Hospitality Room at Boardroom 1622 on Level 19, Grand Hyatt, Grand Wing. Visitors to Submarine Networks World are invited to contact their Infinera representative to arrange a meeting or email events@infinera.com.
