SUNNYVALE, CA – Oct. 18, 2010 – Infinera (NASDAQ:INFN, news, filings) will feature two live demonstrations illustrating the advanced capabilities of an Infinera Digital Optical Network at this year’s SCTE Cable-Tec Expo.
SCTE Cable-Tec Expo runs from Wednesday, October 20th through Friday, October 22nd at Ernest N. Morial Convention Center in New Orleans, Louisiana.
Infinera will demonstrate its Digital OTN capabilities with a demonstration of end-to-end Digital OTN switching on a combined Infinera DTN- ATN network at the Infinera booth. Infinera offers what it believes to be the most complete OTN implementation in the industry, with OTN grooming and switching at every node in the network, to maximize service reconfigurability and network performance monitoring throughout the network, and deliver increased network bandwidth efficiency. Infinera’s DTN and ATN platforms provide a seamless OTN network supporting point-and-click provisioning across the metro edge, metro core, and long haul segments of the optical network.
In a second live demonstration, Infinera will transport a 100 Gigabit Ethernet (100GbE) signal from an EXFO test set to an Infinera DTN with a 100GbE module, through fiber, and then looped back to the Infinera DTN, and back to the test set to confirm the signal integrity. The prototype Infinera 100GbE interfaces are fully compliant with the industry standard ratified in June 2010, known as IEEE 802.3ba. Testing and verification of the transmission will be performed with an EXFO FTB-85 100 Gigabit/second (Gb/s) Packet Blazer tester.
“We are pleased to showcase EXFO’s FTB85100G Packet Blazer, the industry’s first portable 100Gb/s Ethernet tester, at SCTE Cable-Tec together with Infinera, an industry-leading provider of Digital Optical Network solutions,” said Étienne Gagnon, EXFO’s Vice-President-Wireline Division and Corporate Marketing.
In the Expo area at the show, Infinera product and technology experts will be available at booth #337 to discuss the Infinera product families, the ATN and DTN, and the latest upgrades that deliver new features and functionality. With ATN R2.0, Infinera continues to enhance the capabilities of the ATN and its interworking with the DTN to deliver an end-to-end seamless network from the metro edge to the core.
Infinera provides Digital Optical Networks solutions to a broad range of customers worldwide, including all five of the largest cable providers in the United States. Today Infinera announced a new Infinera deployment by Midcontinent Communications, to bring the speed, ease of use, and intelligence of an Infinera Digital Optical Networks to the customers of the largest independent cable provider in the Upper Midwest. (See today’s related news release, Midcontinent Deploys Infinera Network for Upper Midwest.)
“Infinera solutions are valued by cable MSOs for their ability to accelerate and simplify service turn-up while delivering enhanced scalability and flexibility to meet the growing demands of triple-play services, and, increasingly, commercial services as MSOs broaden their business strategies,” said Gaylord Hart, Infinera Director of Marketing.
