Level 3 Communications, Inc. (NYSE:LVLT, news, filings) today announced it has selected John M. Ryan as chief legal officer to succeed Thomas C. Stortz, who will be retiring at the end of the year. Ryan will be responsible for Level 3’s legal and regulatory functions worldwide. Ryan has been with Level 3 since 1999, and has more than 17 years of experience with legal issues specific to the telecommunications industry.
“It has been a privilege to work with the Level 3 team for the past 12 years,” said Stortz. “I have every confidence that John’s intimate knowledge of our business, broad industry experience and leadership will be great assets to the company.”
Ryan has worked in roles supporting Level 3’s customer contracting and vendor contracting since 1999 and has led Level 3’s public policy group since 2005. “As an early member of Level 3’s management team, Tom has helped guide the company through its evolution from start up to the company we are today. We will miss his advice and counsel,” said James Crowe, chief executive officer of Level 3. “It has been my honor to work with Tom over the past 12 years, and I wish him the very best in his retirement.”
