TELUS AND EDGECAST NETWORKS BRING GLOBAL CONTENT DELIVERY TO CANADIAN MARKET

oint offering means dramatically faster worldwide content delivery for Canadian companies and improved web experience for Canadians

TORONTO, CANADA AND SANTA MONICA, CALIFORNIA — AUGUST 3, 2010EdgeCast Networks, the world’s fastest and most reliable content delivery network (CDN), and TELUS (TSX: T, T.A; NYSE:TU), a leading telecommunications provider, today announced a joint agreement to open EdgeCast’s global network to TELUS customers.

The alliance immediately positions TELUS as a premier provider of global content delivery network (CDN) services and enhanced local content delivery services throughout Canada; building on existing TELUS leadership in managed IT infrastructure, webcasting services and its new OptikTM solution for video and home entertainment.

“The Edgecast partnership aligns with our strategic intent to unleash the power of the Internet to TELUS customers at home, in the workplace and on the move. With this partnership we can now deliver a complete Internet experience with unsurpassed quality and security over smartphones, tablets, PCs and TVs,” says David Fuller, chief marketing officer at TELUS.

The EdgeCast network interconnects with more than 900 user networks around the world, delivering customer content from strategically placed servers that are closer to the consumer, and completely bypassing Internet congestion.

This solution also enables Canadian content providers and businesses to save on investments in their own costly infrastructure. Additionally, they can minimize their data centre costs and commitments with other CDN providers for both local and global reach.

“While our partnership with EdgeCast clearly improves the rich media experience for end users in Canada, it also sets up TELUS to compete in the rapidly-growing local CDN market,” David Fuller says. “Businesses can now quickly adapt their content delivery strategy to meet peak demands, the needs of a shifting customer base, or to enter new markets.”

EdgeCast’s global network, in combination with the robust TELUS Canadian network, will help TELUS business customers ensure that Internet users will have fast, immediate access to their content and services regardless of the end user’s location. Moreover, with its direct connection to every network in Canada – small or large – TELUS is a critical partner for EdgeCast in the Canadian market.

James Segil, co-founder and president of EdgeCast Networks, says the partnership makes sense for businesses and consumers in the Canadian market.

“As TELUS business customers seek to increase their online engagement with customers, they can now be sure that even their largest media files will be delivered quickly to any computer or mobile device anywhere in the world,” Segil says. “With the reduced latency and increased throughput of a truly global network, the improvements in streaming quality and surfing speeds are dramatic and ensure an excellent user experience.”

TELUS customers can immediately provision media streams and manage delivery of their content and applications using this solution. Comprehensive reporting and analytics from EdgeCast deliver live access to information on utilization, user connections and data storage.

The service is available now, with free trials available to existing and prospective TELUS customers.
