Allowing enterprises to create a hybrid cloud between their dedicated VMware environment and a securely provided Colt managed infrastructure
31 August 2010
Today at VMworld 2010, Colt, a leading provider of business communications and IT managed services, announced that it is the first European-based partner to deliver VMware vCloud™ Datacenter services. Part of Colt’s enterprise cloud offering, the service will deliver cloud flexibility and scalability, enabling organisations to manage their VMware virtualised environment, scaling on demand using Colt’s managed service capabilities.
VMware vCloud Datacenter is an enterprise-class hybrid cloud service that enables organisations to extend and migrate their own virtualised environment to a Colt data centre, with Colt providing a VMware-certified cloud that delivers flexibility, scalability, security and operational efficiency. Colt’s delivery of the VMware vCloud Datacenter service will utilise its wholly-owned network, data centres and managed services expertise to deliver a first class enterprise cloud offering, backed-up with business level service level agreements (SLAs).
The partnership with VMware will be further enhanced as Colt extends its platform-as-a-service (PaaS) and infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS) cloud services for the enterprise.
Richard Oosterom, Managing Director, Colt Managed Services said: “Companies have made significant investments in their VMware virtualisation and the next logical progression is to deploy and scale these virtualised environments into cloud services with a trusted provider. It was imperative that the European element of the offering was delivered by a provider able to offer the full service package. Colt’s information delivery platform does this by integrating IT managed services, networking and communication services.”
“VMware is pleased to work with Colt to bring the full benefits of a hybrid cloud to our mutual customers,” said Paul Maritz, president and CEO, VMware. “The new service based on VMware vCloud™ Datacenter enables enterprises to not only improve efficiency internally, but also be in a position to tap into external resources in a non-disruptive way when it makes business sense to do so.”
The Colt enterprise cloud – a VMware vCloud™ Datacenter service will be available in a controlled basis in November 2010 and across Europe first quarter 2011.
