Juniper Networks Media Flow Controller Improves Data Center Efficiency and Reduces Cost for Global Content Delivery Network
SUNNYVALE, Calif., August 24, 2010 — Juniper Networks® (NASDAQ:JNPR, news, filings) today announced that BitGravity — the world's first and only content delivery network (CDN) purpose-built to deliver high-definition video on-demand and live streaming — has selected the Juniper Networks Media Flow Solution to overlay on its distributed origin architecture for improved efficiency of its infrastructure. Juniper's Media Flow Controller, a Junos® Ready Software application, combines deep, media-aware intelligence with an innovative architecture that maximizes system and disk performance to enable ground-breaking scale and performance.
BitGravity delivers innovative, Internet-based high-definition video services and solutions to organizations that offer high-quality and engaging high-definition experiences to their end-users. BitGravity selected Juniper's Media Flow Controller because its superior scalability aligns well with BitGravity's innovative distributed origin CDN design. With Media Flow Controller, BitGravity can scale with fewer servers, reducing its overall data center footprint and power requirements.
"Our main focus is to offer the best delivery of video services at the lowest possible cost for our customers," said Perry Wu, chief executive officer and founder, BitGravity. "Juniper's Media Flow Solution will improve our cost structure and scalability across our distributed infrastructure and the infrastructure we manage for our carrier partner, Tata Communications."
Juniper's Media Flow Solution is a content delivery, distribution and caching solution purposely-built to address CDNs' and network service providers' needs for new media and rich content delivery. Media Flow Controller is a highly scalable solution, which reduces the number of servers required to deliver rich content, decreasing power consumption, data center rack space and cooling costs. The solution supports virtually all content protocols to enable media delivery to PCs, handheld devices, Internet-enabled TVs and a variety of other devices.
"BitGravity is a technology leader in the video and media delivery space," said Manoj Leelanivas, executive vice president and general manager of Junos Ready Software at Juniper Networks. "Their decision to implement our technology is a testament to the innovative architecture of Juniper's Media Flow Controller and its value in lowering total cost of ownership."
Also today, Juniper separately announced the availability of Juniper Networks VXA Series Media Flow Engines. The VXA Series are carrier-class appliances designed to optimize the performance of the Media Flow Solution.
