TOKYO, JAPAN – NTT Communications (NTT Com) announced today the immediate launch of OCN Green Search, an optional interface for the OCN-brand portal top page, where environmentally conscious users can perform web searches that trigger donations from NTT Com to environmental organizations.
Launched in celebration of the United Nations’ 2010 International Year of Biodiversity, OCN Green Search provides a framework for NTT Com to donate 15% of the profits from searches performed on this page. Initially, two environmental organizations will receive the donations: FoE Japan, a member of Friends of the Earth International, which has more than one million supporters in 68 countries, and the Wild Bird Society of Japan, one of Japan’s largest nature-protection groups with approximately 51,000 members and supporters. Donations to other groups are under consideration.
Along with the results of each search, OCN Green Search informs the user of how many searches they have performed so far, as well as cumulative users and searches to date. Donation amounts also are scheduled to be announced in the future. The OCN portal (www.ocn.ne.jp) is offered in Japanese only.
Going forward, NTT Com plans to implement various other measures through OCN Green Search to encourage people to play more active roles in the environmental protection movement.
In addition to OCN Green Search, NTT Com also operates the OCN ECO Plus webpage, which provides diverse information about environmental initiatives and related social contributions.
