TEMPE, AZ, Jun 30, 2010 – Limelight Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ: LLNW) announced three new customers in the United Kingdom: TweetMeme, themathsfactor.com, and Horse & Country TV. The three companies represent a wide range of online services, with business models that rely on social media, remote learning, and video entertainment respectively.
TweetMeme is widely known for its Retweet Button, a familiar icon that allows Internet users to promote stories and blog posts by automatically publishing a link on Twitter. The button is useful both for promoting content to a specific audience (Twitter followers) and for aggregating popular news, which is then highlighted on the TweetMeme home page. TweetMeme filters this content from Twitter and aggregates it into Channels (narrow streams of content) that can be custom-built upon request, for example, Toyota Conversations. While TweetMeme’s founders recognized the significant potential of automated retweeting, they had no way to predict how successful the service would become. With more than six hundred million button impressions daily, TweetMeme now relies on the Limelight DELIVER service to make the retweet icon appear on over two hundred thousand websites, with continued global expansion underway.
Themathsfactor.com offers children’s math tutorials online and is the brainchild of UK TV star Carol Vorderman. Launched in March 2010, themathsfactor.com uses a subscription fee based model for access to its video teaching products. Because customers are paying for the online tuition, video quality is of the utmost importance. Themathsfactor.com turned to Limelight Networks for infrastructure support and to the Limelight STREAM service specifically for online, on-demand delivery of its large video files.
Horse & Country TV (H&C TV) is a popular on-air and online channel that offers topic-specific news, sporting events, and feature programming. In response to its growing internet audience, the channel recently decided to extend its website offering to include live streaming events. With the help of Limelight STREAM, H&C TV hosted its first live online event at the end of April 2010, in conjunction with the Mitsubishi Motors Badminton Horse Trials. The effort was highly successful, attracting users from more than 70 countries and an average online viewing time of forty-eight minutes per user. H&C TV’s website now hosts more than 300 hours of video, with visitors accessing the site from more than 100 different countries.
“Limelight Networks has the infrastructure to deliver content for customers all over the world, and the companies we serve are exceedingly diverse,” said George Fraser, Vice President of International Markets, Limelight Networks. “Whether customers are focused on small object delivery, like TweetMeme, or delivery of large media files, like themathsfactor.com and H&C TV, we can tune our intelligent delivery platform to reach audiences globally, providing the best end-user experience possible.”
