New York, NY – NTT America, a wholly owned U.S. subsidiary of NTT Communications Corporation (NTT Com), and a global IP network services provider, today announced the company’s chief technology officer (CTO) and vice president of IP development for the Global IP Network Business Unit, Doug Junkins, will speak at FutureNet 2010, the premier industry event focusing on the next generation of networks for enterprises, service providers, and vendors in the communications services arena. Mr. Junkins will provide an overview of the state of the next generation Internet protocol IPv6 and its adoption and deployment during a roundtable session today, Tuesday, May 11 from 4:15 p.m. to 5:15 p.m. EDT at The Boston Park Plaza Hotel & Towers.
Now in its tenth year, the event is the premier forum for discussion of MPLS and Ethernet, 3G/4G wireless, and network and application performance management. FutureNet 2010 offers an expanded conference including the “Internet 2.0: Creating the Next Generation Internet” conference-within-a-conference and additional sessions exploring the sustainability of the Internet for business and emerging trends around Ethernet. As a leading provider of enterprise hosting, managed network, and global IP networking services including IPv6, NTT America has unique insight into how enterprise customers and service providers worldwide can cost effectively and productively deploy next generation services and applications to support growth and additional revenue opportunities.
As part of the “Internet 2.0: Creating the Next Generation Internet” conference-within-a-conference, Mr. Junkins will join industry leaders and offer his perspective and real-world IPv6 experience during the roundtable, “IPv6: Reality Check,” which will explore the key concerns, opportunities, and challenges relevant to IPv6 in both service provider and enterprise environments. Topics of discussion will include the drivers for IPv6 adoption, key operational issues, optimal implementation strategies, security issues, and the risks of delaying IPv6 deployment. With years of experience in network architecture, tool development and peering relations, Mr. Junkins will cover “IPv6 Deployment & Commercial Applications at NTT America,” and discuss current issues and drivers of IPv6, such as new applications and IPv4 address depletion. NTT America is a leader in both the implementation of IPv6 and advocacy for IPv6 adoption and remains committed to sharing IPv6 experience, lessons learned and best practices with other leaders in the industry.
“Our decade long experience with IPv6 is unique in the industry and allows us to impart information to companies interested in taking advantage of the benefits of deploying IPv6 today,” said Doug Junkins, CTO of NTT America. “When faced with the continuing IPv4 address depletion, migration to IPv6 must take place to continue to support growth and functionality of the Internet and to maintain an environment for innovation.”
In his role as CTO, Mr. Junkins is responsible for the company’s technology procurement strategy and vendor selection, industry relations and standardization efforts, and overall product portfolio coordination across both the Global IP Network and Enterprise Solutions business units of NTT America. The NTT Communications Global IP Network was the first Tier-1 network fully upgraded to run IPv6 and is one of the world’s largest commercial IPv6 networks. As IPv6 traffic continues to grow and deployment increases globally, IPv6 presents a major opportunity for companies to maintain Internet connectivity and business continuity with global partners. Support of IPv4 and IPv6 was a factor NTT America considered when the company recently chose to deploy the Cisco® ASR 9000 Series Aggregation Services Router to scale its Global IP Network infrastructure for leading capacity, nonstop video, power efficiency, robust IPv6 support and integrated video monitoring intelligence. By supporting IPv6 transit service in native, tunneled or dual stack modes, NTT America provides a flexible and speedy transition path for companies, allowing them to take advantage of new international opportunities in content and commerce while minimizing capital investments and saving time through simplified network management.
