NTT America Co-Hosts Premier Latin American Telecom Conference

Media Advisory—April 19, 2010

When: April 21, 2010 – April 23, 2010

Where: Hotel JW Marriott Mexico City, Andres Bello 29, Mexico City, Distrito Federal 11560 Mexico

What: NTT America, a wholly owned U.S. subsidiary of NTT Communications Corporation (NTT Com) and a Tier-1 global IP network services provider, will co-host the XXVII Reunión Iberoamericana Tráfico Internacional, a bi-annual event, now in its 27th edition, which brings together influential telecom executives and representatives from more than 150 carriers to discuss challenges and opportunities in the Latin American region.  The event is produced by the Ibero-American Association of Research Centers and Telecommunication Enterprises (AHCIET), a non-profit organization representing more than 50 Latin American and Spanish telecommunications companies.

Who: Michael Wheeler, vice president of the Global IP Network, NTT America, will speak on the opening executive roundtable, “Regulation and Competence for New Investments and Infrastructures in Response to Challenges of Growth and Expansion of the Sector,” on Wednesday, April 21, 2010 at 3:30 p.m. CDT.  During the panel, executives will focus on the general state of existing infrastructures, including terrestrial, submarine, satellite and data centers; discuss new business models to justify investment; and explain the role of government as a promoting agent to foreign investment.

David Berrios, NTT America’s manager of business development for Latin America, will speak on the panel, “International Traffic Models,” on Wednesday, April 21, 2010 at 5:00 p.m. CDT.  During the panel, executives will explore methods of reinventing traditional models in light of new competition; discuss the intermediation of next-generation networks (NGNs) for voice, data and mobility; and address the demands and requirements of 3G and 4G mobile data services.

Why: In 2008, NTT America and the company’s Latin American affiliate, NTT do Brasil, broadened NTT Communications’ international base and solidified NTT Communications’ footprint in the Latin American market by joining AHCIET, a membership that is based upon the increased need for IP transit services due to the growing demand for broadband connections and applications, and mobile Internet support, as well as the speed of liberalization and the implementation of government-driven programs in the region.

As part of one of the largest telecommunications companies in the world, NTT America leverages the international business, financial, technology and geographic assets of NTT Communications to help Latin American telecommunications and cable companies stay competitive as they use the NTT Communications Global IP Network to rapidly add new customers and deliver new services in support of growth and additional revenue opportunities.  Facing key challenges of capacity pricing and access as more businesses and consumers purchase broadband connections, Latin American service providers and carriers can contain the costs of doing business while rolling out new IP based services using flexible high speed connections designed to scale with their changing bandwidth needs.  Via the NTT Communications Global IP Network, NTT America shapes bandwidth up to 10Gbps, delivers over STM1, STM4, STM16, Fast/Gigabit/10 Gigabit Ethernet, and provisions any number of 10GigE ports in a matter of days.  In addition, the speed and global reach of the network means that NTT America quickly delivers rich and streaming content residing in the United States.  (Note: To view the NTT Communications Global IP Network, visit: http://www.ntt.net/english/about/network_map.cfm)
