Fiber connectivity provides broadband Internet access for crucial public education, health, and safety services to eight central Oregon counties
SEATTLE, WA – April 28, 2010 — 360networks, a facilities-based full service wholesaler of VoIP, Transport, IP, and Local Access services, today announced it is providing fiber connectivity to facilitate the provision of wireless services for Frontier TeleNet, expanding broadband options and opportunities for anchor institutions and citizens in eight rural Oregon counties. Using point-to-point networks of towers with licensed microwave and wireless broadband links, school districts, healthcare facilities, law enforcement and emergency services personnel now have access to true broadband services and applications.
Frontier TeleNet is a partnership between Gilliam, Sherman and Wheeler counties and the North Central Education Service District. The original Frontier TeleNet wide area network included nearly 4000 square miles (avg. population density 1.25 persons per square mile), bringing otherwise unavailable broadband access to many remote rural communities. With 360networks’ help, Frontier Telnet has expanded its wide area network (WAN), creating middle-mile connectivity across a 20,660 square mile area in rural and frontier rural Oregon.
Thanks to the Frontier TeleNet WAN, a high school student in Condon can participate in a Physics class taught in Portland; rural medical clinics can better serve their patients; and public safety officials can use the power of broadband to better protect citizens.
“360networks provided us with the affordable bandwidth we needed to sustain the provision of effective and efficient services for our network users,” said Rob Myers, Frontier TeleNet general manager.
“We are happy to be associated with such a worthwhile endeavor and welcome other opportunities to advance connectivity in underserved markets,” Said Chris Mueller, 360networks chief financial officer.
