TOKYO, JAPAN – NTT Communications (NTT Com) announces today that its customizable cloud-based hosting service, Biz Hosting Enterprise, will begin offering a Microsoft® Hyper-V™ server-virtualization platform in June, with subscription applications to be accepted from April 1. The move is the latest expansion of the Biz Hosting Enterprise lineup, which also offers VMware virtualization technology.
Hosting services for applications management within virtualized environments are increasingly drawing the attention of enterprises. Demand is especially high among companies looking to upgrade from Windows Server® 2003, Windows Server® 2003 R2 or Windows 2000 Server as support for these operating systems (OS) is gradually phased out starting this year.
Biz Hosting Enterprise reduces both total cost of ownership and environmental load for a world-class broadband IP backbone connectivity and mission-critical systems, encompassing both non-virtualized and virtualized systems. The addition of Hyper-V™ will enable customers using Windows® OSs to create private-cloud environments for reliable, low-cost management of hosted applications. Customers using NTT Com’s conventional hosting services for traditional physical server setups will be able to reduce monthly fees up to 50% by switching to Biz Hosting Enterprise’s Hyper-V™ platform.
Hyper-V™’s hypervisor feature uses virtualization technology to allow several OSs to run concurrently on one server. The virtualized environment created with Biz Hosting Enterprise runs application services such as Microsoft® Exchange or Microsoft® SQL Server® Hosting, as well as Windows Server 2008 R2 as the OS hosting service on virtual machines. If trouble is detected in a server device, the virtualized machine is automatically redeployed to another clustered device to ensure system availability. Private-cloud hosting of Windows®-based applications with Biz Hosting Enterprise ensures a reliable, secure, high-quality application management environment backed by robust support.
Looking ahead, NTT Com plans to extend its HyperV™-based private-cloud offerings and enhance end-user operational flexibility by introducing the Microsoft® Dynamic Data Center Toolkit. To prepare for hybrid-cloud models tailored to business customers using Windows® environments, NTT Com is planning to perform interoperability testing over the network between the Biz Hosting Enterprise environment and Microsoft® online service environments such as Windows® Azure™ and Microsoft® Online Services in cooperation with Microsoft®.
