Interxion Partners with the London Access Point

LONDON, 24th February 2010 – Interxion, a leading European operator of carrier-neutral data centres, is to host a Point of Presence for the London Access Point (LONAP) in its City of London data centre. The move provides Interxion’s 1,100-plus customers with the opportunity to peer directly with LONAP’s extensive member base.

LONAP is a Layer 2 Internet Exchange Point providing the physical infrastructure and connections for around 100 members to exchange traffic with each other efficiently and at low cost. LONAP joins Interxion’s roster of over 500 carrier and network partners that provide connectivity and peering opportunities from its sites across Europe. The partnership will offer current and potential customers the choice between LONAP and the London Internet Exchange (LINX), which already has a Point of Presence at Interxion’s City of London facility.

“We are in the process of deploying our next-generation switching platform to increase the availability of 10Gbps connections to cope with increasing demand from our members, and Interxion will be the first site to run exclusively on this new infrastructure,” said Sebastien Lahtinen, Chairman of LONAP. “Our agreement with Interxion means network operators wishing to peer at LONAP and currently based in Docklands now have the choice of a datacentre in the City of London. Interxion’s facility also offers high-density power configurations and plentiful capacity, and serves a large community of potential new customers, so it is an excellent environment for growth.”

“We already have a partnership with LINX, and by partnering with LONAP, we are able to offer our customers increased choice and redundancy for their IP traffic,” said Greg McCulloch, Interxion UK MD. “Customers can now exercise greater control over their network traffic by choosing which exchange to join, or they can connect to both Internet exchanges, expanding their public peering opportunities even further and ensuring redundant connectivity.”
