Danish Education Centre Upgrades Network with Juniper Networks Integrated Networking, Security and Management Solutions

Network Enhancements Provide Increased Flexibility, Performance, Protection and Control

COPENHAGEN, Denmark, January 14, 2010 — Juniper Networks® (NASDAQ:JNPR, news, filings) today announced that EUC Nord, one of the largest business and technical colleges in Denmark, has upgraded its network infrastructure with an integrated switching, access control and device management solution from Juniper Networks. The Juniper solution, part of a comprehensive IT infrastructure upgrade, is designed to provide fast, reliable and secure granular access to applications and services for the college’s growing, diverse user base, and support new applications including IP telephony.

“The college has 1,200 wired PCs plus between 600 and 1,200 wireless PCs connecting to our network every day,” said Klaus Sandager, IT manager, EUC Nord. “Historically it has been difficult to control the security stance of our disparate endpoints. To protect the network, our applications and users, we needed to have improved control and visibility of individuals and devices accessing our resources. We also needed a fast, reliable and secure infrastructure able to power VoIP at scale, providing top-quality services for our users. Juniper’s high-performance solution provides the availability, control and security needed for unifying and protecting communications over our network while lowering our total cost of ownership.”

EUC Nord is the largest vocational education center in northern Denmark. The college has grown rapidly over the last twenty years and covers a wide range of education and training programs, including short-term courses, apprenticeships, high school-level business and technology programs, higher education programs, and specialist courses offered by its centers of excellence. EUC Nord has in excess of 3,000 full-time students and a staff of more than 400 lecturers and support personnel.

The Juniper Networks IC Series Unified Access Control (UAC) Appliance has been deployed to control access to EUC Nord’s network resources on a per-user and per-session basis. UAC dynamically and granularly controls access to the local area network based on user identity, device security state and location information. UAC incorporates different levels of session-specific policy—including authentication and authorization, roles and resource policies—to deliver extremely robust access control and security that is simple to deploy, maintain and modify.

EUC Nord has also deployed Juniper Networks EX Series Ethernet Switches in its backbone network. EX Series Ethernet Switches are designed to deliver the next generation of switching technology for modern networks, providing the network with carrier-class performance and reliability. The EX Series switches are interoperable with UAC (the switches act as enforcement points for policies driven by the IC Series), adding security risk management, network virtualization, application control and lower total cost of ownership to the network.

In addition, EUC has deployed Juniper Networks Network and Security Manager (NSM), which provides complete management of Juniper’s network and security devices. NSM offers complete management across all Juniper switches in the network as well as UAC’s IC Series Appliances, enabling EUC Nord’s IT department to control the entire device life cycle with a single, centralized solution. It also provides complete visibility via investigative and reporting tools, improving management efficiency and lowering operating costs.

“Providing high levels of network service, coupled with protection and management of network assets, is a common issue faced by organizations today,” said Gert-Jan Schenk, senior vice president EMEA, Juniper Networks. “The solution deployed by EUC Nord enables them to offer premium voice and data services, remain compliant and provide dynamic protection to a wide, frequently-changing range of users.”
