Partner in the spotlight: EvoSwitch News-item-image_evoswitch

EvoSwitch was founded in 2007 as the first carbon and carrier-neutral data centre in the Netherlands. Since our launch we have grown continuously, reflecting the phenomenal year-on-year growth of the Internet in general and our customers in particular. We own and operate top tier connectivity-rich data centres on both sides of the Atlantic, with a 15MW carrier-neutral data centre in Amsterdam and a 1MW facility in Washington DC, serving a total floor space of 13,000 m2.

Our facilities provide world-class highly connected infrastructure in two of the world’s leading internet hubs. The Netherlands is ranked No. 1 in DHL’s Global Connectedness Index. Relative to national GDP, Amsterdam provides the highest density of tier-1 data centre colocation of any European city, with Internet traffic growing by 22% annually. Our US facility services what 451 Research call ‘The Epicentre of the Internet’ – 70% percent of the world’s internet traffic passes through the Northern Virginia technology corridor.

In the past five years – but the last year in particular – we have outperformed all other players in the Amsterdam market in terms of customer traffic growth.

Sustainable Scalability
EvoSwitch customers are expanding continuously. To accommodate their needs we have contracts in place for a further 30,000 m2 of customer space and 60MW of IT load. This year we are building the first 2,500 m2 of a new three phase 6,000 m2 data centre on our AMS1 Campus, with 7.5 MVA of 100% renewable power.

Adding Value through Connectivity
Our hybrid cloud platform EvoSwitch OpenCloud creates a dynamic marketplace for the sale, development and consumption of next generation hybrid cloud architecture. It brings together enterprises, networks, cloud infrastructure providers, specialist partners, and leading Internet Exchanges, offering a huge variety of low latency cloud connection options. Because OpenCloud is – and will remain – neutral, members can leverage the full power of the marketplace. Provider partners gain quick, supported, access to new revenue opportunities, while cloud consumers can try before they buy, testing new connections in parallel without disrupting existing services. They can avoid lock-in, maximize flexibility, and look forward to growing choice as new partners sign up and existing partners expand. Today over 100 customers are active members of EvoSwitch OpenCloud.

Traffic Levels
We believe that neutrality breeds connectivity, and a key indicator of successful growth is traffic levels. AMS-IX is an enormously valued partner of EvoSwitch as the leading internet exchange based on connected networks, peak traffic and connected capacity. For the last 5 years EvoSwitch has proudly been awarded Gold Partner status by AMS-IX. For those who do not know; To qualify, companies have to introduce over 20 new members or 100GE of new port capacity per year. AMS-IX traffic at EvoSwitch AMS1 exceeded 800 Gigabits per second, matching NIKHEF (Amsterdam Science Park), contributing a significant proportion of overall AMS-IX traffic levels and growing the fastest of any facility in the region. We are very proud of our 5 year in a row Gold Partner status with AMS-IX. We feel it is important to have reliable partners such as AMS-IX to develop new technologies and solutions together for now and in the future.
