Controlware and Net Insight optimized all HD live feeds, including audio and data, for ARD and ZDF of the 2018 Winter Olympics and Paralympics in South Korea.
Controlware, a German system integrator and managed services provider and a dedicated and successful Net Insight partner since 2004, supported ARD and ZDF in the live broadcast of the XIII. Olympic Winter Games (February 9-25, 2018) and the Paralympics (March 9-18, 2018) from Pyeongchang, South Korea.
Net Insight’s powerful media transport platform, the Nimbra MSR, were installed in the broadcasting centers in Mainz and Leipzig, in the international broadcasting center in Pyeongchang as well as in the three venues for biathlon, cross-country and speed skating.
More than forty JPEG2000-encoded HD TV signals, twenty network services and three MADI signals were transmitted.
“The Nimbra MSRs support comprehensive monitoring and analysis functions that allow even individual bit errors to be identified and corrected in real time,” explains Dirk Hamann, Manager Competence Center Network Solutions at Controlware. “So we were able to test the feeds from Korea in the run-up to the games over a longer period of time and to proactively optimize the performance step by step.”
In order to ensure a rapid rectification in the event of transmission disruptions, Controlware set up a 24-hour hotline for the ARD and ZDF technical teams for the duration of the games.
