TE SubCom to design, deploy and launch submarine cable system for Google between North and South America

Curie Submarine Cable will link Los Angeles, California and Valparaiso, Chile via a high capacity intercontinental cable

EATONTOWN, N.J., January 16, 2018 – Alphabet Inc. (Google) and TE SubCom, a TE Connectivity Ltd. company (NYSE: TEL) and an industry pioneer in undersea communications technology, today announced that SubCom has been awarded the Curie Submarine Cable system contract. The system will add dedicated capacity to Google’s global network, enabling interconnection to other infrastructure in the region.

The four fiber-pair system will span over 10,000 km and will link Los Angeles, California (USA) to Valparaiso, Chile, and will include a branching unit for future connectivity to Panama.

“We’re proud to provide comprehensive services to Google on this project. Leveraging existing TE SubCom infrastructure through our SubCom Global Services (SGS) options put us in position to be a true partner to them. Our role in the continued growth of global connectivity and information sharing is a point of substantial pride for the TE SubCom team,” said Sanjay Chowbey, president of TE SubCom.

The cable system is named in honor of science pioneer Marie Skłodowska Curie, the Polish and naturalized-French physicist and chemist who conducted pioneering research on radioactivity. The two-time Nobel Prize winner served as an inspiration for the project with her dedication to scientific discovery and the dissemination of knowledge.
