Podcast: Responding to disaster

Ericsson Response is a volunteer initiative that provides communications expertise, equipment and resources in times of a disaster. In this podcast, one volunteer chats with the program director about the origins and purpose of Ericsson Response.

Ericsson Response on the island of Dominica

The tight-knit team of around 130 employee volunteers shares a sense of responsibility, integrity, and camaraderie mixed with a sense of trepidation for being deployed to a disaster zone.  In this special Ericsson News Podcast, Dwight Witherspoon, Head of Silicon Valley Brand and Communications and Ericsson Response Volunteer, talks to Brent Carbno, Program Director for Ericsson Response. The two reflect on the central role of partnerships for Response and their own experiences of being deployed to different disaster areas.

Currently, Ericsson Response has volunteers on the Caribbean island of Dominica responding to the crisis after hurricanes Irma and Maria while other volunteers have just recently returned from Iraq and Nigeria. Since 2000, Ericsson Response was established in 2000 and has supported over 40 relief efforts in more than 30 countries.
