CenturyLink deploying faster broadband speeds to more than 56,000 customers in Omaha

OMAHA – CenturyLink, Inc. (NYSE:CTL, news, filings), a leading broadband services provider for consumers and businesses in Nebraska, is deploying faster broadband speeds to tens of thousands of homes and small businesses in the Omaha area. In conjunction with faster speeds, the company is also now offering residential customers CenturyLink® Price For Life High-Speed Internet service with a monthly rate that stays the same as long as customers keep their same internet service plan and remain at the same address.

The company’s investments in its local network in Omaha are enabling broadband speeds up to 100 Mbps and, in some areas, up to 1 gigabit per second to more than 56,000 homes and small businesses by the end of 2017. In addition, CenturyLink has expanded its broadband network into many rural communities in the area, including Bennington and Springfield, providing speeds of at least 10 Mbps download and 1 Mbps upload in locations identified as eligible for the Federal Communications Commission (FCC)’s Connect America Fund (CAF).

“CenturyLink is committed to improving the lives of our customers by connecting them to the power of the digital world; that’s why we’re investing in new broadband technology and offering customers a fair and straightforward monthly rate for high-speed internet service,” said Julie Darrington, CenturyLink vice president of operations for Nebraska, SW Iowa, South Dakota, and North Dakota. “Our deployment of faster broadband speeds in big cities as well as small towns helps CenturyLink connect its customers to the things that matter most to them.”

The average household has five devices connected to the internet and nearly one in five homes has 10 or more connected devices, according to the Pew Research Center. With that number expected to rise, CenturyLink is investing in faster broadband speeds to help customers handle the demands of numerous connected devices. CenturyLink gigabit service provides more than enough bandwidth for everyone in the home. Subscribers can download a digital movie in less than two minutes and multiple songs or photos in less than one second.

Speeds up to 100 Mbps may be available to families who don’t need gigabit speeds, but still have several people in the home who frequently stream and download video content. With this speed, customers can download a five gigabyte high-definition movie in less than seven minutes and access faster upload speeds, creating a better experience when participating in online gaming, storing data in the cloud, and sharing photos and video clips.

For more information on what broadband speeds are available in Omaha, customers can visit the CenturyLink retail store located at 15825 W Maple Rd. or go to www.centurylink.com. More information on CenturyLink Price For Life can be found at www.centurylink.com/simple.
