BICS STRENGTHENS ITS PRESENCE IN INTERXION’S MARSEILLE DATA CENTRE CAMPUS

PARIS, FRANCE, 5 September 2017 – INTERXION HOLDING NV (NYSE:INXN, news), a leading provider of carrier and cloud-neutral colocation data centre services in Europe, today announced that the telecommunications company BICS (Belgacom International Carrier Services) has chosen to strategically strengthen its presence in Interxion’s Marseille campus.

BICS is one of the world’s leading voice and mobile data carriers, providing global wholesale solutions to fixed and mobile network operators throughout the world. To support these global customers, BICS has implemented around 100 network PoPs throughout Europe, North America, Asia, and Africa. The strengthening of its presence in Interxion’s Marseille campus fulfils three main goals:

Offering its services to an ever-increasing number of customers. The Interxion campus in Marseille – directly linked to 13 international submarine cables – provides access to a growing community of carriers (120+ of them are currently connected compared to 46 in 2014), cloud or digital media players, and thus offers BICS the opportunity to open up to a wider customer base, while benefiting from the gateway Marseille represents to Africa, the Middle East and Asia.
Optimising its network and service architecture to improve resilience. BICS’s international connections (to APAC, EMEA and North America) will pass simultaneously through its Brussels PoP and its new Marseille PoP, which is exclusively based at Interxion, in order to guarantee its customers greater reliability and resilience in the delivery of their services.
Be the first player to open a third route linking Marseille to Paris. BICs also become the first to open routes both to the Northern Europe loop, and to the three other continents accessible via submarine cables available in Interxion’s Marseille campus to create greater network resilience.
“The fact that major players such as BICS are present on the Interxion campus to deliver their services, and to produce and distribute content, reinforces Marseille’s position as a strategic data centre location. From a transit hub, the city is transforming itself into a content hub where carriers, digital media, and cloud operators are making significant investments,” said Fabrice Coquio, Managing Director of Interxion France.

“BICS constantly develops its network and its range of services according to the evolution of technologies and its customers’ needs. As an existing customer of Interxion on other campuses, it seemed legitimate for us to extend and consolidate our presence in Marseille which will enable us to access new customers and to optimise the resilience of our network architecture. This investment is the result of a shared vision with Interxion – the transformation of Marseille into a global content hub that is at the heart of global telecoms, cloud, and digital industries,” explained Johan Wouters, SVP Capacity Solutions at BICS.
