TENCENT CLOUD ENTERS EUROPE WITH LAUNCH AT INTERXION FRANKFURT

  • Frankfurt data centre officially opened as Tencent Cloud’s first European hub
  • Tencent Cloud to be the first Asian cloud provider launching in Europe’s largest cloud hub
  • Tencent Cloud to have 34 availability zones globally

Shenzhen, China and Amsterdam, The Netherlands – 20 July 2017 Tencent Cloud, the computing arm of Tencent Holdings Limited (“Tencent”, SEHK: 00700), announced today that it will establish its first European hub in the Frankfurt campus of Interxion(NYSE:INXN, news), a leading provider of carrier and cloud-neutral colocation data centre services in Europe.

As the global demand for cloud services continues to rise, companies around the world are looking for reliable and cost-effective solutions to expand and migrate into the cloud. Tencent has chosen Interxion’s Frankfurt campus as the ideal environment for both Tencent customers looking to expand into the European market and European companies looking for high performance cloud products at competitive rates.

“At Tencent we’ve been focused on enhancing and investing in our overseas cloud capabilities to meet the ever-increasing demand for secure and reliable cloud options,” said Wang Huixing, Vice President of Tencent Cloud. “Interxion’s Frankfurt campus is a perfect place for us to expand into the German market. The flagship data centre facility and strong connectivity will help us deliver the best quality service to our customers in Europe and nearby countries.”

Following the opening of its Silicon Valley data centre in April this year, the newly deployment will become Tencent’s first cloud hub in Europe and boost Tencent Cloud’s global availability zones to 34 in total, now covering mainland China, Hong Kong, Singapore, Australia, Europe, Canada, the U.S etc.

Since the establishment of its first global data centre in Hong Kong in 2014, Tencent Cloud has gained momentum in expanding its global footprint. “We plan to build six new regions and 15 available zones worldwide within 2017, making Tencent Cloud one of the Asia’s fastest-growing global cloud service providers,” said Wang.

As a leading provider of colocation data centre services in the region, Interxion will support delivery of superior user experiences to serve the rising demand for the Tencent’s cloud services, particularly from online games, online finance, video streaming, and other internet-related industries.

“Tencent Cloud is quickly generating demand from companies that are looking for an enterprise-grade cloud service with a fast and reliable way to deliver digital services to and from international markets,” said Interxion’s Cloud Strategy and Marketing Director, Vincent in’ t Veld. “We’re thrilled that Tencent has chosen to expand in Europe through our Frankfurt campus, and are excited for the opportunities it gives our customers to execute their cloud strategy on our campus.”

“Other than the premium and flagship data centre facility,” said Wang. “The reason we partnered with Interxion is the presence of two strong interconnectivity platforms right inside the data centre, namely the DE-CIX Internet Exchange and Cloud Connect. With these connectivity platforms available, our customers can quickly deploy their cloud strategy in Europe and nearby,” said Wang.

DE-CIX, Europe’s largest Internet exchange provider colocated inside the facility, provides customers with direct access to over 700+ networks and end-users, with the lowest latency and without unnecessary network hops. Interxion Cloud Connect provides private, high-performance connections to multiple cloud service providers via a single interface.
