Ericsson (NASDAQ:ERIC, news, filings) was recently chosen by Telia as a single supplier of Microwave Radio equipment nationwide for Telia Norway. The agreement enables Telia to expand and upgrade its current transport network in Norway in a flexible and future proof manner towards 5G.

The new agreement is based on Ericsson’s industry leading MINI-LINK microwave portfolio, including the latest MINI-LINK 6600 series.

To demonstrate the qualities and future-proofness of the MINI-LINK 6000 platform, Ericsson and Telia have performed a joint test in Telia’s live network in Oslo reaching a throughput of 2.2 Gbps over the microwave hop. The test was performed in a 112MHz channel utilizing 4096QAM in a 2+0 XPIC configuration in the 38GHz frequency band.

Jon Christian Hillestad, Vice President and Chief Technology Officer at Telia Norway, says “Ericsson has through many years delivered a very stable radiolink platform for Telia Norway. With Ericsson’s latest innovation, Telia Norway is able to continue to support the increasing capacity demands from our customers with radio links. Innovation in this domain is very important on our journey towards 5G, where microwave transmission will play an important role. We are so far very pleased with the cooperation with Ericsson and look forward to continuing the journey.”

Aksel Aanensen, CEO at Ericsson Norway, says: “The Microwave agreement with Telia Norway is an important step to secure continued strong cooperation between Ericsson and Telia Norway. We’re proud to provide a new Microwave Platform to Telia Norway that can contribute to meet the increased need for data capacity and prepare the network for introduction of 5G.”
