Making the Move to Hybrid Cloud

CTOs, CFOs and other IT leaders are all faced with a myriad of challenges from solving day-to-day IT questions to minimizing costs to preparing for the future and ensuring ongoing value for their organizations. When deciding whether to deploy cloud technology within your IT infrastructure, the type of cloud solution matters a great deal.

Public cloud can cause problems for the traditional IT workload. The typical enterprise runs ERP systems, databases, CRM systems, as well as hundreds of line-of-business applications. Often, companies don’t have the resources for developers to prepare them to run in the public cloud. That is why more and more organizations are turning to Hybrid Cloud to help address those challenges.

What is Hybrid Cloud?

Hybrid cloud is the deployment of computing resources across both public and private cloud infrastructure. Successful hybrid cloud deployments consider the needs of the applications and developers – both the current state and future development.

Impactful Trends

  • Operating an in-house data center has become more complex and costly. It is increasingly difficult for companies to keep up with space and power requirements and ensure efficiency, while also updating their equipment and power/cooling systems. Once limits are reached, IT leaders look for other ways to address their requirements; a blend of colocation and/or cloud makes sense.
  • Data gravity – the effect of having a lot of data in one place. Data gravity is another reason prompting enterprises to move workloads out of their in-house data centers and consider hybrid cloud. Enterprise applications work better if they are closer together; being only microseconds vs. milliseconds away can make your data more useful.
  • Cloud-centric data centers – facilities with low latency access to the major hyperscale public cloud environments. Enterprises are migrating into cloud-centric datacenters to shift workloads closer to the cloud.

There are many more benefits of utilizing hybrid cloud, including cost savings, improved application performance and agility.
