Nokia expands the human possibilities of technology in Africa

• Visit Nokia at stand E26 at this year’s AfricaCom

Cape Town, South Africa – AfricaCom 2016 will mark the 10-month anniversary of the creation of a renewed and strengthened Nokia, which following its purchase of Alcatel-Lucent has created a global leader in technology and services for a connected world. The African team would love to meet you at AfricaCom to share the excitement and our plans on what’s next for Nokia.

Nokia has an ambitious plan to shape the future by expanding the human possibilities of technology in Africa and connecting the unconnected, pushing the limits of performance to bring services to people instantly and effortlessly. Nokia is tailoring its presence at AfricaCom 2016 to the African market to show how the connected world can enable new experiences in people’s lives each day.

Nokia is presenting cost-effective solutions for rural connectivity using GSM. The end-to-end portfolio includes Nokia Single RAN Advanced radio products, power and energy solutions, site solutions and backhaul solutions. Basic connectivity solutions based on 2G can be upgraded to 3G and LTE when demand grows. Live NB-IOT demos on commercially available base station hardware and software will also be shown at the Vodacom booth. The solution will support IOT devices in various frequency bands and is an essential M2M solution that mobile operators can further implement in their IOT business offerings.

Deon Geyser, head of Southern African and the Vodafone Market Unit, says there will be several demonstrations at the Nokia stand: “We will be showing our end-to-end portfolio so the market can see the breadth and depth of Nokia’s solutions and services. Examples include Wireless Access Networks, Fixed Access Networks, Connectivity and Transport Networks, Core Applications & Analytics, Professional Services, Smart Cities and the associated Public Safety and Security & Enterprises.”

Geyser says Nokia is excited to share its next generation of network technology with the broader African market, and is confident in the potential of the continent: “Africa is the perfect place to share Nokia’s vision of expanding the human possibilities of the connected world. We look forward to discussing how both existing and new customers can use technology to improve people’s lives.”

AfricaCom 2016 takes place at the Cape Town Convention Centre from 14 – 18 November 2016. Nokia will be at stand E26.
