Veterinarian, Mechanic, and Meteorologist? That’s Just Another Day for the Agility Challenge Contest Winner

Heritage Hollow Farms, owned by Mike and Molly Peterson, won the $50,000 grand prize in the Agility Challenge contest.

Mike and Molly Peterson rise before dawn every morning in the shadow of the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia to do what they love. The owners of Heritage Hollow Farms manage 400 head of livestock on 700 acres in Sperryville, Virginia, and sell their beef, lamb, and pork directly to the community at their farm store. In doing so, they appear to do the impossible: wear more than a dozen different hats.

“On any given day, we have to be a veterinarian, mechanic, meteorologist, plumber, metal worker, bookkeeper, salesman, delivery driver, cleaning crew, marketing team, soil biologist, alchemist—the list goes on and on,” said Mike Peterson. Vacation and sick days do not exist. “The animals are always there, and we have to wear all of these hats so we can be there for them.”

“If we don’t have healthy animals, we don’t have a healthy business,” said Molly Peterson.

The Petersons’ consummate agility helped them capture the $50,000 grand prize in the AT&T #AgilityIs contest. They competed with more than 1,000 other small businesses who vied for a total of $100,000 in prize money.
