Roseville Telephone Museum Open to Public Saturday, July 9 for Heritage Trail Museum Tour

Museum celebrates more than a century of communications technology and history of the Roseville Telephone Company

ROSEVILLE, Calif. – July 6, 2016 – As part of the 2016 Placer County Heritage Trail Museums Tour, Consolidated Communications, Inc. (CCI) will open the Roseville Telephone Museum to the public from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, July 9. The Roseville Telephone Museum is located at 106 Vernon Street in downtown Roseville, Calif.

The Roseville Telephone Museum displays original telephones designed by Alexander Graham Bell, circa 1876, as well as early switchboards, myriad novelty phones, hundreds of candlestick and early wooden wall telephones, and colorful, antique line insulators. The Roseville Telephone Museum is open by appointment for groups of 10 or more. Current and retired CCI employees regularly volunteer their time to share the museum with school groups, service clubs, seniors and other groups.

“We are proud to carry on the history that was preserved by the Roseville Telephone Company and SureWest Communications,” said Gabe Waggoner, vice president of operations for Consolidated Communications. “This museum not only chronicles a century of shared communications technological advances, but the history of the Roseville community through the lens of its communication provider.”

The 9th Annual Heritage Trail Museums Tour features 24 museums from Roseville to Tahoe and all open their doors free of charge on certain days throughout the summer. Instead of opening all museums for one weekend in August as in years past, geographic clusters of museums will have their Heritage Trail Day on certain Saturdays throughout the summer.

Also featured on Saturday July 9 with the Roseville Telephone Museum are the Maidu Museum and Historic Site and the Local History Collection at the Downtown Roseville Public Library. To find out more about the 2016 Heritage Trail, visit theheritagetrail.blogspot.com.
