ViaWest CEO Nancy Phillips Awarded Canadian Governor General’s Medallion

Award Recognizes Nancy’s Support of Economic Ties between Canada and U.S. and Track Record of Building Successful Technology BusinessesDENVER—June 15, 2016—ViaWest, a leading provider of Hybrid IT Solutions and Colocation in North America, today announced that President and CEO Nancy Phillips was recently awarded the Governor General’s Medallion. The award came in recognition of her service and support of the economic ties between Canada and the United States, and her distinguished track record building technology businesses.

Governor General of Canada David Johnston presented the award to Nancy at a ceremony in Denver, stating, “Your contributions to the growth of the telecommunications industry have been nothing short of phenomenal. You have set a high standard for others in your field, and serve as a shining example and mentor to young entrepreneurs.”

An innovative leader, proven entrepreneur and seasoned executive, Nancy is active in the Colorado startup and entrepreneurial communities as an angel investor, mentor and advisor. Prior to ViaWest, Nancy held founder and senior-level positions with numerous technology companies, including TSC, ConferTech International, ITC, RMI.net and Intrepid Communications. During her tenure, she has helped to grow companies both organically and through strategic mergers and acquisitions, while delivering industry-leading growth with a deep client-centric focus.

Nancy’s roots in the entrepreneurial community and focus on diversity in the technology workforce are demonstrated by her board and advisory roles. She serves on the board of the National Center for Women and Information Technology, where she is also the vice chair; the Colorado Technology Association (CTA); Startup Colorado; and the Blackstone Entrepreneurs Network. She has also been a board member – and remains a strong supporter – of the nationally-recognized Denver School of Science and Technology.

“I’m truly honored to receive such recognition from the Governor General of Canada and hope to continue helping improve the U.S. and Canadian economies through service and entrepreneurship,” said ViaWest president and CEO Nancy Phillips. “Now that ViaWest is a part of Canada’s Shaw Communications family, we look forward to bringing our countries even closer.”
