WASHINGTON, April 7, 2016 /PRNewswire/ — CenturyLink, Inc. (NYSE:CTL, news, filings) has been selected by the U.S. Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) as an authorized network services provider under the agency’s $4 billion, multi-year Global Network Services (GNS) contract.

GNS will facilitate a shift from the use of point-to-point circuits to newer technical approaches as the government aims to provide a single Department of Defense network for global voice, video, imagery and data transmissions on a100 gigabit-per-second backbone by 2020.

Authorized services providers can bid on task orders for wired and wireless network transport services that support the Department of Defense Information Network (DoDIN) and the Defense Information Systems Network (DISN) operations and capabilities worldwide, mostly outside the continental United States.

GNS is a multiple-award, indefinite-delivery, indefinite-quantity (IDIQ) contract that has a five-year base period with five one-year options and a $4.3 billion ceiling for all task orders over a 10-year period.

CenturyLink is authorized to bid on and provide a suite of global network transport services that include content delivery networks, virtual private networks, fiber-optic broadband, Wi-Fi, satellite, wavelength, network security, colocation, cloud connectivity and software-defined networking services.

The company has a long history of providing the Department of Defense and DISA with the diverse, reliable and scalable network services that are crucial components of our nation’s defense systems.

By supplying cloud, colocation and managed hosting services over its carrier-class network, CenturyLink provides agencies with the security and reliability they need to carry out their important missions.

“We are proud that DISA has selected CenturyLink as an authorized provider of global network services that offer mission support to American combat commanders, defense support agencies and warfighters,” said CenturyLink Senior Vice President and General Manager Tim Meehan, who leads the company’s federal government team.

CenturyLink is ranked No. 37 on Washington Technology’s 2015 Top 100 list of federal government IT contractors.
