AKAMAI APPOINTS DR. ROBERT BLUMOFE TO LEAD ENTERPRISE & CARRIER DIVISION

Akamai veteran and Executive Vice President of Platform to oversee product development and global sales for Company’s enterprise and carrier solutions

Cambridge, MA | April 26, 2016

Akamai Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ:AKAM, news, filings), the global leader in Content Delivery Network services, today announced that Akamai executive Dr. Robert Blumofe has been appointed General Manager of the Company’s Enterprise & Carrier Division. Dr. Blumofe will also continue to serve as Executive Vice President of the Akamai Platform organization.

Akamai’s Enterprise & Carrier Division is responsible for the creation and sale of products and services to help carriers operate a high-performing and cost-efficient network, and for major enterprises to improve the performance, cost, security and efficiency of their networks and applications for the increasingly mobile employee.

Commenting on the appointment, Dr. Tom Leighton, Akamai’s Chief Executive Officer, said, “We are very fortunate to have such a proven and experienced leader as Bobby Blumofe. Bobby joins Rick McConnell and Bill Wheaton as general managers of our three divisions. Their contributions will be invaluable as we work to grow our traditional businesses, innovate rapidly in new areas, and strive to capitalize on emerging opportunities.”

“There is enormous potential for Akamai to help make enterprise networks be fast, reliable and secure, just as we have for the Internet,” continued Leighton. “And, of course, our carrier partners and customers are vital to most every aspect of our business.  Bobby’s experience and leadership will be instrumental as we build upon these important enterprise and carrier relationships.”

As Executive Vice President of the Akamai Platform Division, Dr. Blumofe is responsible for developing and operating the distributed system underlying all Akamai products and services. Dr. Blumofe also leads the teams responsible for the global strategy and deployment of Akamai’s network infrastructure, as well as Akamai’s internal IT department.

Dr. Blumofe joined Akamai in 1999. Serving as one of Akamai’s chief architects, he was instrumental in the early design and development of the Akamai Intelligent Platform, which now handles trillions of Internet requests daily.
