Level 3 selected as Military Times’ “Best for Vets: Employers”

BROOMFIELD, Colo., March 22, 2016 /PRNewswire/ — Military Times selected global telecommunications provider, Level 3 Communications, Inc. (NYSE:LVLT, news, filings), for its “Best for Vets: Employers” 2016 rankings. The selection helps veterans and their families identify corporations with a culture and policies supportive of veterans.

Level 3’s Focus on Veterans:

  • Level 3 actively recruits military talent at all levels by participating in job fairs, visiting military bases and partnering with numerous veteran-focused programs.
  • Level 3 looks for veterans transitioning into the civilian workforce for opportunities ranging from entry-level to senior leadership roles.
  • Level 3 offers a number of training programs, such as Ops Tech Academy and IP Bootcamp, that target veterans for their military-specific skills, attitude and aptitude, and trains them in civilian roles; more than 50 percent of these program participants are veterans.
  • The Veteran Employee Resource Group (VERG) advises the business on how to best meet the needs of veteran employees and hosts a variety of internal and external events enabling the more than 500 participants to create support groups and communities.

About the Award:

  • “Best for Vets: Employers” 2016 is an editorially independent news project of the Military Times, a publication representing the four major branches of service.
  • The annual initiative evaluates the many factors that make a company a good fit for military veterans and spouses, including culture and policies supportive to military veterans.
  • Also included in the consideration set is a survey, consisting of more than 90-questions, used to analyze a company’s efforts to connect with veterans and provide an environment for success.

Key Quotes:
Mary Beth McGrath, senior vice president of talent management at Level 3
“Over the years, we’ve found exceptional talent among our veterans. Level 3 recruits at military job fairs and bases across the United States because we know many veterans have backgrounds and skills that translate directly to Level 3’s core business. We place a high value on working with our internal veteran community and key external stakeholders to make sure we have the right culture – and programs – in place to support veterans. We are honored to be recognized by Military Times, but it is we who are thankful for the service of these men and women.”

Brian Harvey, regional president of North America operations at Level 3
“By investing in veterans and establishing an environment that is supportive of their success through both classroom and on-the-job training, we are preparing those that come to work with us with the skills and tools necessary to make an immediate contribution to the Level 3 team. Our Ops Tech Academy and IP Bootcamp graduates can hit the ground running and blaze a trail toward an exceptional career at Level 3.”
