Norrsken Expands Network Services in Sweden With Infinera TM-Series Metro 100G

SUNNYVALE, CA–(Marketwired – January 26, 2016) –  Infinera, provider of Intelligent Transport Networks, and Norrsken, a major regional operator in Sweden, announced that Norrsken has expanded its network with the Infinera TM-Series metro 100G solution. The Infinera TM-Series enables Norrksen to deliver 100 gigabit per second (100G) multi-service transport services with low power, high density and bandwidth scalability.

Norrsken operates a regional network in Sweden providing Layer 1 wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) services and Layer 2 Ethernet services. To meet the demands of the major Internet service providers, carriers and other customers rely on the Norrsken network to ensure high resiliency by using a main route along the coast of Sweden and a redundancy route inland along the western border of the country.

With the Infinera TM-Series, Norrsken can provide its customers with a packet-optical network featuring multi-service capabilities including MEF 2.0 certified Ethernet services and Optical Transport Network (OTN) aggregation engineered for a range of services including enterprise, mobile backhaul, wholesale bandwidth and metro aggregation applications.

The Infinera TM-Series provides Norrsken with an optimized 100G transport solution which allows Norrsken to offload 100 gigabit Ethernet wavelengths on heavily trafficked routes. Infinera worked with local partner Fiberdata AB in Sweden on Norrsken’s network upgrade, collaborating to supply the chosen network solution.

“Upgrading Norrsken’s network with the Infinera TM-Series was a natural choice for us,” said Björn Jonsson, CEO at Norrsken. “Norrsken already has TM-Series in our network and with the new metro 100G solution, we are now able to also provide 100G services to our customers, providing an even more scalable high capacity network.”

“Norrsken and Fiberdata have been strong supporters of the TM-Series packet optical solution in Sweden,” said Nick Walden, senior vice president, EMEA Sales at Infinera. “The TM-Series continues to deliver on speed and bandwidth scalability, enabling Norrsken to pass these benefits on to its customers.”

About Norrsken

Norrsken offers high capacity bandwidth over a network covering 58 towns and cities in 11 counties in the middle and north of Sweden, also covering the Stockholm area. Through a unique cooperation with, and ownership by, the city-networks in the region, Norrsken can offer very flexible solutions with high capacity/bandwidth. We see ourselves as operator-independent as we do not offer any ISP or level3 services. Taking that into consideration we can offer operators extreme possibilities to provide their services in the region and in cooperation with other network owners in almost all of Sweden.
