ADVA Optical Networking announced today that its ConnectGuard™ solution has been deployed in more than 200 data center interconnect (DCI) networks around the world. Engineered to provide the most complete data protection possible, ADVA ConnectGuard™ is being used across all industries to safeguard hundreds of Tbit/s of sensitive data. Enterprises and service providers across the globe have invested in ADVA Optical Networking’s unique technology in response to the sudden surge in cyberattacks and the changing legal environment for data protection. Fierce demand for the security solution has come from all areas including governments, financial institutions, the healthcare industry and communication service providers. It’s now also complemented by ADVA ConnectGuard™ Ethernet for secure connectivity to cloud-based data-center resources.

“In recent months, we’ve seen a string of major data breaches in the news with valuable information being targeted by spies, hacktivists and organized cybercriminals,” said Christoph Glingener, CTO, ADVA Optical Networking. “It’s now impossible not to be aware of the rapid increase in cybercrime so it’s no surprise that security has become a key concern for every industry vertical. Enterprises and service providers realize they have to take a comprehensive approach to safeguarding data. They know that truly secure communication means protecting information beyond the walls of the data center, securing data in-flight so that it’s safe from attacks at the physical network layer. Customers are demanding secure DCI, safe links between premises and protection for data as it moves into the cloud. We’re seeing such incredible demand for ADVA ConnectGuard™ because it really is the only solution with the complete architecture for total security.”

Designed to internationally recognized security standards, ADVA Optical Networking’s innovative optical encryption technology has been successfully integrated in over 200 networks in just two years. It brings a new level of resilience and security to DCI networks through its dynamic key exchange and strictly separated encryption domain management platform. A wide variety of protocols are supported, including Ethernet, Fibre Channel and InfiniBand and it’s the only fully integrated solution able to scale to 100Gbit/s. ADVA ConnectGuard™ creates none of the problems with latency and performance degradation that come from other encryption methods. Network encryption on the optical layer is as powerful as it is reliable so data integrity with regard to latency and throughput is guaranteed. It’s easy to operate and also highly efficient with the lowest cost-per-bit of any network encryption solution available today.

“The rapid adoption of ADVA ConnectGuard™ comes at a time when cloud-based services are booming, meaning more data traveling outside the enterprise walls,” commented Stephan Rettenberger, VP, marketing, ADVA Optical Networking. “Meanwhile, organized criminals are increasingly employing hackers to target the most valuable and vulnerable networks. Eavesdropping on optical transport is no longer difficult or expensive. Techniques can involve splicing optical fiber to intercept transmissions or even contactless methods to hack into cables. For criminals, it’s an easy opportunity – fast, anonymous and without borders. But for businesses, every data breach brings enormous cost, not least through damage to hard-earned reputations. Network operators everywhere are turning to ADVA ConnectGuard™ to ensure valuable data remains safe and vital applications continue to run. It encrypts at the critically important physical layer. It provides permanent monitoring. It’s the ideal solution for optimum network security.”
