Key themes covered in the demonstrations:

Ultra-dense networks: Nokia Networks’ future-ready portfolio allows mobile operators to serve huge data demands while maximizing their investment in spectrum assets on an evolution path to ultra-dense networks. Through a combination of Nokia’s technologies that deliver 10 times more cells, 10 times more spectrum and 10 times more efficiency, mobile networks are expected to serve 1000 times the traffic levels in 2020, compared to 2010. This will help operators prepare for 5G and the Internet of Things as well as build networks that expand the human possibilities of the connected world.

Related demonstrations include Mobile Guard, 5G end-to-end use cases, Smart Location Experience Optimization, and Services for HetNets*.

LTE-U: In the LTE-U (unlicensed) demonstration, Nokia Networks shows the capabilities of Licensed Assisted Access (LAA), using its Nokia Flexi Zone small cells technology. The demonstration includes carrier aggregation between LTE in licensed and unlicensed spectrum and the technology’s co-existence with Wi-Fi.

The company also demonstrates advances in TDD/FDD carrier aggregation and its Liquid Radio features to boost 3G uplink throughput, in addition to Throughput Guidance and Device Caching**.

Big data and analytics: Nokia big data and analytics comprises the analysis and use of huge amounts of data available to create “intelligent” networks. Under this theme, Nokia Networks showcases its Predictive marketing analytics that provide operators with the full picture of mobile customers’ service experiences and the insights to predict behavior. With these insights, operators automatically can target the right personalized message to the right customer. The company also shows demonstrations*** including Emergency Alert Solution, Ensuring top VoLTE experience, and small cell perfection.

Telco cloud: Nokia Networks demonstrates its advances in telco cloud, including a live VoLTE/VoWiFi demo on telco cloud as well as the architecture for highly scalable, flexible and efficient cloud-based radio access networks. Demonstrations in this area include**** Voice Services on Cloud, Cloud Network Director and Cloud RAN.

Did you know?

According to Nokia Networks’ Technology Vision 2020, mobile users will consume up to 1 GB per user per day of personalized data when we reach the year 2020. With enhancements in network technology, it is possible to deliver this amount of data profitably without compromising on customer experience.

Notes:
* 5G-related demonstrations:

  • Mobile Guard: Mobile Guard is a network-based malware detection system for mobile devices. It has an analytics engine that “listens” and “analyzes” mobile broadband and SMS messaging traffic and searches for malware traffic patterns (smartphones, tablets) or deviations from the expected device traffic profile (IoT device).
  • 5G end-to-end use cases: This demo showcases how key 5G technologies work together to support the extreme requirements of new applications for ultra-high data rates and almost infinite capacity. Use cases include ultra-reliable, low latency communications to enable self-driving vehicles and connectivity for a huge number of sensors.
  • Smart Location Experience Optimization: This demonstration of application-centric performance management correlates experience, specific locations and related network performance for a smarter way to prioritize investments based on the profile of subscribers, devices and applications within a given area.
  • Services for HetNets: Nokia’s Services for HetNets optimizes network evolution with the right combination of macro and small cells to optimize operators’ coverage and capacity mixes. The Nokia Networks methodology delivers better HetNet performance such as increased traffic offload, less interference, and better quality.

** Throughput Guidance and Device Caching: The throughput guidance service enables a completely new way of optimizing the mobile video experience in a cooperative model between operators and content providers. The device caching makes it possible to distribute content to mobile devices efficiently for a significantly improved customer experience.

*** Other big data and analytics demonstrations:

  • Emergency Alert Solution: This demonstration shows a typical emergency alert scenario where one sees how the alert is created, emergency area defined, and subscriber data is used to convey potentially life-saving information and alerts to people known to be in the emergency area.
  • Ensuring top VoLTE experience: The company showcases how to manage VoLTE to ensure the best network quality, service quality and customer experience. This is proven through cross-portfolio use cases that tie selected OSS, CEM and services capabilities together.
  • Small cell perfection: This demo shows automated configuration and optimization of small cells (possibly as part of the HetNet) by implementing a new small cell into an existing network and/or optimizing due to changes in conditions.

**** Other telco cloud demonstrations:

  • Voice Services on Cloud: The company shows VoLTE/VoWiFi (based on Evolved Packet Data Gateway) with mobility between LTE and WiFi in a live environment.
  • Cloud Network Director: Nokia Cloud Network Director configures and deploys new network services and integrates them automatically into the network.Nokia Cloud Network Director is responsible for lifecycle management and scaling of network services, which comprise several virtual network functions.
  • Cloud RAN: The Virtualized RAN demo implements Flexi Multiradio 10 Base Station as Virtualized Network Functions (VNF) on top of standard IT servers. It emphasizes upon Nokia’s technology leadership as a long-term partner capable of developing future-ready network solutions for customers.
