Zayo Group Opens New Downtown Minneapolis Colocation Facility

Company’s second data center in Minnesota will feature 5,000 square feet of space

BOULDER, Colo.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–

zColo, the data center and colocation business of international bandwidth infrastructure provider Zayo Group Holdings, Inc. (ZAYO), today announced it has opened a new colocation site located at the 511 Building data center in downtown Minneapolis, Minnesota. The new site will provide Internet and content companies with a secure, carrier-neutral facility for interconnectivity options.

“As providers look to move content ‘closer to the edge’ to improve performance and efficiency, Minneapolis is a growing and increasingly important exchange point,” said Corey Needles, senior vice president of operations at zColo. “Our new Minneapolis colocation site further enables zColo to provide comprehensive and cost-effective solutions to the growing number of Internet and content companies in the region. As a result of the strong demand for our colocation services in Minneapolis, the facility will be EBITDA positive based on signed customer contracts prior to opening.”

Once completed, the carrier-neutral facility will provide customers with the ability to access both Zayo’s and other carriers’ fiber-optic networks. Zayo owns and operates the largest competitive metro fiber network in the greater Minneapolis area. Additionally, Zayo leverages its long haul fiber network to provide connectivity to Minneapolis.

“Through our carrier-neutral colocation, zColo will be able to provide customers with additional access to fiber providers as well as multiple levels of redundancy and 24/7 network security,” said Varun Kharbanda, vice president of operations at the 511 Building.

The facility will feature a glycol-based cooling system with N+1 CRACs and dry coolers, a single 2MW generator and 825 kVA of redundant UPS power. The colocation site will also include an electrical system with 2N configuration, biometric security and video surveillance monitoring.

zColo’s U.S. footprint now totals 36 facilities and more than 480,000 square feet of billable space.
