KAPOW! Mobile Data Surges in San Diego FPO banner image

AT&T customers used more than 15.3 TB of mobile data at 2015 Comic-Con International in San Diego. See how AT&T helped attendees stay connected.

This year’s Comic-Con International in San Diego was one for the (comic) books. From major celebrity sightings to unforgettable moments inside the convention center and throughout downtown San Diego, there were plenty of shareable moments from the biggest pop culture event of the year.

AT&T customers were out in full force this past week at Comic-Con, using their mobile devices to share the most exciting moments on social media and with their friends and family.

In total, AT&T customers used more than 15.3 TB of mobile data at this year’s Comic-Con International. That’s equal to more than 46 million social media posts with photos!

  • That’s more than 26 percent more data compared to last year
  • Mobile data usage at Comic-Con surged more than 660 percent since 2011

Here’s how we did it. To help attendees stay connected this year, we:

  • Rolled out a Super COW (Cell on Wheels) and a Super COLT (Cell on Light Truck). These mobile cell sites boost internet capacity. Innovative multi-beam antenna technology gives them their “Super” status.  Each of them gives twice the network capacity of traditional, single beam antennas.
  • Boosted the Wi-Fi at Comic-Con International to enhance the experience for thousands of comic book and pop culture fans at the event.
  • We doubled the LTE capacity at cell sites in the immediate vicinity of the Convention Center, including the interior Convention Center cell sites, COLT and COW as compared to last year.

Mobile data use continues to skyrocket at big events every year, especially at big “look at me” events like Comic-Con International. We’ll continue to keep saving the day— one selfie at a time.
